Rose bush from 1896

Here is a pink rose bush we have that has been in my wife's family since 1896, it was started back in 1896 by her great grandpa in Winchester, VA...a few people in her family have a portion of the rose bush that they split off the main one years ago and that's how it has kept going...we got this one from her sister who lost her home and was gonna leave it there and were like no way, so I went and dug it up, it was almost winter at that time so I put in 5 gallon bucket and put in my garage...transplanted it back into this spot 2 years ago and it came back...we were nervous .....needless to say I defend this rose bush with all my wit, any type of bug I see on it I destroy on the spot lol

Anyways enjoy..I will post another pic when the bud pops...this is the only 3rd bud of the year, we had a harsh winter so it has been a slow grower this year and I think the transplant a couple years ago took a toll on it ...

Rymerpt-thanks bud..

ikeepfish-yeah man that is awesome, just something about having something that old and knowing your able to keep it going for so long...great feeling isn't it..

smokenfire-thanks man..yeah it is very gratifying and just plain cool to see it still alive and even after the beating it has taken over all these years...

It is even more special to my wife cause it went from from her Great-Grandpa to her Grandpa who she was very close to ..so we named it after him, Brisco was his name so the rose is also named Brisco..have to love those old school southern names lol

Thats great. Winchester is just on the other side of "mountain" from where I grew up. Pretty area.

My grandmother on moms side had a Jade Tree that she carried with everywhere she went while traveling. It has now been separated into I think 6 pieces and all her kids and my sister have it growing strong. And from my grandmothers flower garden on dads side we have 4 separate Iris's still kicking it. Both had amazing rose gardens too but we didn't transplant any of those. May have to do a little nighttime op and snag a few if their still around.

that is cool

i was told by a friend from Texas (i think it was "Fremp" a member on here i have not heard from for some time now??) that they have a Chilitepin plant that was planted nearly 50 years ago it still lives and is about 20 feet tall
really cool how they can live that long and equally cool that it acclimated so well to transplant
thanks your friensd Joe

Yeah Winchester is beautiful..the wife's father owns about 100+ acres and it's mostly apple orchards ..just love visiting there ..

Thanks

That's pretty darn cool. Are you going to try to make any clones or anything of it? I would be super paranoid about killing it and need backups hah.

Never really thought about cloning, good idea though and I just recently built a clone bucket hmmm...however it's a pretty hardy bush when it has a good growing year...if it could survive this many years and being transplanted after sitting in my garage in a 5 gallon bucket over winter then surviving the first brutal winter after being put in the ground after being dug up, I'm not to worried about it.....

Thats awesome!! We have a rose bush for about 50 years now, and a pomegranate bush for 45, but they cant be compared to your rose bush :)

Awesome.
We have a 50 year old xmas cactus--it passed into my mother's hands after her mother passed away last year.
I took some cuttings because they remind me of grandma...hope it can stay with the family for years to come, like that rose bush of yours.

Awesome to hear fellas..

Ok so the bud popped and the rain we got knocked it down, it has a few more buds popping.. It also has aphids so about to spray it..
Enjoy
