Virgin Hot Head grow *WE GOT PODS!!*

This is my first year growing, and will be doing it all indoors. Plants have seeded so far are...
Prik Chi Faa
Santa Fe Grandes
Carolina Reapers
Chocolate Habanaros

This will be it till January since my indoor grow box that is still in the works of being completed is only 6x3.

I also have 2 cucumber plants that I was thinking about doing indoors separately, but I think I will just end up taking to a buddies house

I'm digging that cabinet grow area idea. What kind of lights you using? I'm growing some indoors as well and I'm just using a 4ft. fixture with "Gro-Lights (full spectrum flourescent bulbs)" from lowes.

Just stay away from the "Spot-Gro" bulbs at Lowe's (they look like small flood light-style bulbs, I think Sylvania makes them).  They do absolutely nothing to help the plant grow, all they do is emit a shade of light that makes the plants look more aesthetically pleasing.

EDIT: Forgot to add my original comment, whoops!

Very nice looking setup you have there!  Why did you choose the dimensions that you did (just curious, personally I would've built it a bit taller since you have the space and it would mean it can accommodate larger/taller plants.)

Thanks! The box is definitely overkill, but I haven't built anything in quite some time so I figured why not. Right now I am just running a single 4' T5, but my Mylar and 8 Bulb T5 Fixture should be in on monday. The final design will have my next lighting fixture on a pulley system, and I was tossing around glass on the doors but I am just going to plywood that from the inside and put mylar on there as well.

Yeah lighting choices was a definite loss of sleep for me. Since this grow was a last minute concept I just stuck with what was familiar to me(fluorescents) instead of going with something more high end. Starting next year I only plan on starting peppers indoors and then transferring them outside, so we will see if I even find the need for more lighting solutions

Ohhhhhhh nooooooo. Fuck that. I'm using 4ft T5's as well. What's your input on those? They any good?  :)

The setup is currently 6' long x 3' deep x 4' high. At this size I can break it down and set it up somewhere else in a matter of minutes if I need to. If 4 feet ends up being an inadequate height I will just add a 2' expansion piece, but being able to break it down when I am not using it was my main design  concept

That was also why I leaned towards fluorescents, because with their slimmer profile I can take them all the way to the top with larger plants and save space

T5's will work just fine.  Personally I decided to pay just a bit more money and upgraded to a HPS/MH system, last year I used a 250w fixture and I somewhat recently acquired a 600w fixture for use this winter.

Ah, I stand corrected, that's a pretty decent size, and how very practical!  Originally I was going to design and build my own stand for my indoor setup but I realized I could modify a steel shelving unit that works way better than anything I ever could have built lol!  Another good thing about the shelving unit is that while my plants are outside for the summer I reconverted the unit back to shelves so I could store my pepper supplies.

Replanted all my peppers and I am getting much better drainage now. 2 out of 3 of my carolina reapers are slower to recovering from the over watering but the 3rd is now developing its second set of leaves. All my chocolate Habanaros have their second sets starting, and some of my prik chi faa have 3rds sets starting. Can't wait for my mylar and new grow light to show up in 2 days so I can get these guys to hopefully start blowing up in size

Recieved the Mylar and new light today. Will run the light at half power for now to gauge how the plants react

Lol the two pics were suppose to be of the light but apparently photobucket does what it wants...

Lol wow. Well lesson learned tonight would be that the photo bucket app on my phone has a mind of its own

My group of peppers. Thinking about adding a few more varieties, instead of growing duplicates like I originally was thinking. Any suggestions?

Carolina Reaper

Chocolate Habanaro

Prik Chi Faa

After trying to kill my plants with love(water) to start off I think it is safe to say they are all making a great comeback. I did however over due it on the Epson salt spray, but it has not negatively affected the plants from what I can tell.
Whole Group

Prik Chi Faa

Carolina Reaper

Chocolate Habanaro

Also ordered an assortment of more seeds from Judy, but I am just going to save them for my large outdoor grow next summer.

Finally translated the rest of my Pepper plants to 6in pots, and they all seem to be adjusting quite nicely. So far I would say the fluorescent grow light and homemade grow box have been a success. Looking for some feedback here though... Do you guys think that my plants are growing a normal rate? Looking at some other Glogs, I can't help but think they are behind schedule(all germinated between July 25th and August 2nd I believe). Also you may noticed that I topped two of the Prik Chi Faas. I did that mainly just to try as much experimenting with this first grow as possible. I only plan on keeping one of the Prik Chi Faas, so they have been sort of my guinea pig.

Non Topper Prik Chi Faa

Carolina Reaper

Chocolate Habs

And best of all I have 12 new varieties of Super Hots from Judy over at Pepper Loverz!! Going to save them though for the winter when I start planting seeds for next summers grow though.

Peppers are doing great still. I think due to the slight annoyance of Photobucket I will do updated pics every few weeks instead of every week. Also how are people updating their headlines?

Your growth looks like it's humming along at a good speed, it's very nice and green in here :)

I think you edit your original post.

Topped all plants roughly two weeks ago, and the new growth is very nice!! The Prik Chi Faas are starting to flower in their 4" pots, but due to space constraints they will not be bumping up to the 3 gallons like the others. I have one more Chocolate Hab that needs transplanted, but apparently I am a lousy county of supplies while at the store.

Did some clean up. Gonna keep the Prik Chi Faas going until my Lettuce and Spinach is ready to be put in their Deep Water Culture. Would love to see some pods set, but my primary goal is to keep the Chocolate Habs and Reapers going well.

Plants look good, but how long do you give them until they've outgrown your grow box?

Super hots can get really large if you put them in a large enough pot.
