Hardening off

What should the schedule look like?
it is so freaking hot here the sun is unreal hot will this work?or should i use another plan the morning sun is really hot here got it from another post on the board.....
So far I'm planning something like this:

Day 1: 1-2 hours AM sun
Day 2: 2-3 hours AM sun
Day 3: 2-3 hours AM sun, 1 hr PM sun
Day 4: 2-3 hours AM sun, 2-3 hours PM sun
Day 5: 2-3 hours AM sun, 2-3 hours PM sun
Day 6: 2-3 hours AM sun, 30 min noon sun, 2-3 hours PM sun
Day 7: First all day exposure

I could stretch that to 14 days by doubling each day, if necessary.

Hows that look? I'd rather not burn my peppers!
 
Sounds like it may work alright. But don't rush them if you have a lil doubt go with your gut. I put mine out early and was thinking I should wait well they all took a beating. But all survived they were bright breen plants when they went to dirt then they lost all their leave turned yellow and thought were dying. Surprise these guys are really hardy so never give up on them. Also out here in Oklahoma the wind has been terrible up to 50 mph gust and was blowing for the last week. So use that schedule but use your gut feelings when and always remeber haste maakes waste. good luck joe :idea:
 
Hey the schedule looks good and is similar to what I did.I might suggest indirect light outside in this heat for a couple days.I failed to do that with my naga`s and they are now back inside recovering.They didn`t take well to 3 days at 100 and direct sun. Good luck hope the weather gets better for yall out there.
 
Your schedule looks ok...however, I would harden them for 2 weeks to be on the safe side...as HIXS said, I would put them outside in a sheltered area for a week just to get them climatized to the temperature variations, then start your two week routine...JMO...-
 
we are having record floods in our aera right now glad i live up in the hills LOL as for the weather it is just like August here humid as hell and hotter than that . the winds is also blowing like a cheap two dollar SL*tt here too but the plants where grown under lights with a big fan blowing on them so they are pretty stout in that department i just do not want to sunscald them is all
 
I am not going to claim any kind of expertise, but all I have ever done is put them in the sun, wait until they look wilty and then move to the shade. After they recover for a while back out into the sun. Most of my plants are hardened off in a three day weekend that way.
 
they just can't stand this north texas sun that quickly down here...plus the heat has already hit 100 several times...we are supposed to cool down for tomorrow...I think the high is supposed to be 86F...
 
Hey Aj you got a dog house I can rent---100 here again and not suppose to cool off till thursday.My plants and I will keep your pup company. lol

I first started off by putting mine in a partly shaded area for just a couple hours. Then I worked up to leaving it out there all day. After that I did what the other guy did. I put them out in the direct sun. When they started to limp I brought them back into the shade, then I put them back out again an hour or two later. Finally the last couple days I've been leaving it out for a few hours right in the middle of the day in the blazing sun on purpose. They were taking it really good so today I finally figured they need to survive outside no matter the weather. They've been out in the direct sun transplanted in large pots all day and when I checked just a few minutes ago they looked perky, green, and very happy. I'll move them to my old mans house to stay in the morning. It'll get a little cool tonight, but not bad, so this should be the perfect day to leave them out. I'll see how they look in a couple days. Still good I hope.:)

I'd imagine so. I just know it's supposed to get down to 61 tonight. I guess that's cold compared to the last couple of nights:lol:. Perfect time to put them out.
