Starting my plants late

I live in Southern California and the weather is usually warm or hot. I will be starting my seeds next week & later growing them outside in containers. Will starting my plants this late be a bad idea?
 
I wouldn't say bad idea, but you may not get fruit... But at the same time there is a chance you could depending on the winter temperatures. I say go ahead and grow because you can always overwinter... And it's tons of fun!
