pH Recommend a PH meter?

I have been researching a good food grade PH meter and am getting mixed results can anyone recommend a good food grade PH meter?

Thanks in advance!

If your not a professional then the cheap ones you can find on ebay for about $12.00 will work just fine. I have one I bought a couple of years ago. I keep packages of the test solution around and verify it quarterly and it's still working perfectly. When I first bought it I was verifying it every time I used it, did it for about 6 months and only had to readjust it at about 4 or 5 months so, that's why I do it quarterly now.

Good Thread, thanks. I'm getting closer to getting a PH tester and this thread has helped .

Yep, 2nd year pepperhead hear and I'm graduating to the mash phase now.  Probably right on schedule as the rest of THP gang. I have a nice yellow mash brewing and about to start a reaper mash and a mixed bag one too.

So it seems logical to start learning about the PH instead of just relying on vinegar.

When you choose to re-calibrate, how far do you find they have drifted from an accurate reading?

Good question.  I just was wondering the same thing. I've had mine sitting in 4.01 PH solution and when I turned it on today (one week later) it read 4.6.  I didn't know if that was normal for the ph to change or if it is just +.6 inaccurate now.

When I re-calibrate mine I use both the 4 and 7 buffer solutions adjusting for the 4 first and then the 7 as the direction that came with it said to do. Generally mine is only out by .1 to .3, never been more than .3 out anyways.

Edit: That's checking it once a quarter. Also, I don't store my meter in any solution and after using it a clean it with dish soap and warm water then put it back in the case it came in and into a drawer.

Same

Don't mean to hijack, but this is roughly related and I though an extra thread was superfluous. Does anyone know if soil PH testers will work? On calling around, those are the only kinds available at various local stores, and I want to pick this up today.
