Peppers and their color

So I've been wondering, how do you get a specific color for a pepper? Like if I took red paint and yellow paint and mixed it,I'd get orange paint. So if I took a red fatalli and a yellow fatalli (just a random choice of peppers),would I get an orange fatalli? And what if I wanted a brown, pink, golden,or even green(when ripe) or any other color pod(for any kinda pepper) for instance?

Thanks
J

It's genetics.. LOL

Red is Dominant IIRC. Brown may be co-dominate.

The rest are recessive. Which means if you were say, trying to breed a white reaper here is what you would need to do (at a minimum).

White pepper x reaper (now called wr f1)
wr f1 x white pepper (wwr f1)
then grow out a few thousand and hope one of them gets 2x white genes so that the recessive comes through while controlling for pod shape, and heat.

LOL yeah sorry, was busy and didn't have time to really answer.    Color is like many things and it's in the genes or not. so to get a color you want it has to have it or you have to put it in to get it back out. might take years to get the color/s you want if you have to put it in or could be done in the first breeding it all depends on the color and if it's Dom. or Ress.

If you look at the Pic. any Capital letters show Dom. and lower case shows Ress. so it shows what genes are needed and tells with looking what ones are Dom or Ress.

Yah Breeding in color is often harder than breeding in shape or even flavor and will take awhile ( years ) to get everything just right. At least you're in a area that you might get two crops of peppers in one season with a little protection, that is if you don't get a freek climate freezes. Then you would need a nice green house to keep your work going all the year long.
You might need to even out cross with another pepper species if the color you want is not put out normally like a purple pod with stripes.
