My thoughts for next spring....

I live in Idaho. Taters grow like weeds - free for the picking! I'd like to try growing the cash crop some day, but this state isn't very conducive. I think I'll stick to my plan for growing hops next spring as I plan to brew some mean imperial IPA.
 
Bull!  You'll wind up with at least 25 next year, just because you had to try a dozen new varieties.  :D
You might consider planting 'double occupancy' in a single container, allowing more variety at the expense of somewhat reduced yield per plant.
 
As for the weed, meh...  Barley and hops, if they can be made to grow in your climate, sound much more useful!  :beer:

Aren't those a lovely little beast. They're like lil' faux silk worms, weaving nightmares of mass botrytis rot.
