b2b's Glog

Hi there,

Although I've grown peppers back in 2010 and 2011 (life pushed me away from, unfortunately), I can say I'm a newbie on this. In other words, I'm restarting from nearly zero. The only things I have is a lil bit of experience from what I have not completely forgoten and a good variety of seeds, most of them old (3 or 4 years).

So I'm trying to grow some plants from my old seeds, from some that I've got from friends and some that I purchased. On this new experiment (started on Sep 13, 2014), I put 48 seeds (44 old + 04 new) of distinct varieties in an Osmopriming solution (destilled water + NaCl) for about 24 hours.

Seeds in Osmopriming solution.

48 seeds total.

About 24 hours later, the seeds were transferred into small polyethylene flasks to start their "in vitro" germination process. I  made "beds" for them with some cotton soaked in mineral water.

Each seed went to a distinct flask.

All 48 seeds.

Less than 48 hours later, one of the seeds (not an old one, but one of the new ones) germinated:

A little Jalapeño.

I'll do my best to keep this Glog updated. Sorry about my english and PLEASE, correct me and call my attention for any kind of mistake or something I eventually do wrong about anything.

A hug!

Welcome to the site and good luck on your grow! You mention that you started 48 seeds but did not tell us what they were. What are you planing on growing this year?

If you get a chance throw in some pics....we like pictures ;)

Looking good so far! :)
Thank you! I've seen your pics, it looks you're doing a good job on your plants. Hope to see your Glog soon...

** UPDATING:

After transferring the seeds from Chamomile tea into their respective flasks, I have now two trays full of them:

wow that is interesting looking- looks way better than the old damp paper towel method.. i might have to copy your methods for my next round of germinating

I never tried the paper towel method, but lots of people in Brazil do it with good results. About the methods I'm using, I'm really getting nice surprises actually.

Im really interested in this germination system youre working with looks incredible.Id like to see your results.good job!!!!

Results began to appear, as you can see below.

** UPDATING:

I have now 03 trays full of flasks, but I've noticed the 1st ones I used are short if you want to wait a bit longer to move the little plants from the flasks. Whatever... doing and learning. Next tray will be filled with taller flasks (and "brand new" seeds that will germinate faster than the older ones YEEEEEAAAH!)

Anyway, the method is the one I'll apply from now on (till some better come up), cuz I'm really satisfied with it.

Well, lets cut the c**p and move to the pics

A hug!

Any updates? :)

Yes, there are updates. Sorry for the absence. My stepfather died last Monday and my grandma passed away two days ago, so my week was terribly and sadly busy. I'll post updates ASAP this week.

Have a great Sunday you all!

A hug!

It's been a while since my last post, sorry. I've been working hard and life is a little mess around here, lol. Lost two relatives in a week but things started to get back to normal I think.

**UPDATING:

The heat in my regions is harder then the usual. My old seeds still are "in vitro" process and I've been paciant and hopeful about their germination. I think it's time to put some fresher seeds to grow. We are about to enter the raining season and I think it will be good as the weather is gonna get pleasant.

I'll wait a little more to move the plants below to the wick system.

Hope everything is fine with all of you...

A hug!

Hey RoninCat, nice to cya! Yes, I do plan to start them, as well as some others I got. I'll also grow some brazilian varieties in order to get some seeds to share.

A hug!

I've been working like hell so hadn't the time to post as I would like to. Well, no excuses... my fault!

** UPDATING:

Some of my old seeds "in vitro" had fungi, especially those that were donated to me some years ago. I still keep most of the old seeds into the flasks due my hope on them germinate and replace the ones I think won't germinate at all due the fungi or something like that. Anyway, so far I'm satisfied with the results and I'm sure somethings can be done to get best germination rates. Learning every day...

Just a pic of my growth tray, hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a pleasant week.
