Quick photo test to share a picture of some seedlings - Yaki Blue (bottom), CGN21500 (top), Purple Pumpkin (middle right).

Are you trying to just 'link' the image (as it is now) or are you trying to 'embed' the image so that we see it straight away? Like this:

Umm, ignorance being shown here ...
 
Trying to embed rather than link - I just need to brush up on the "how to", and if successful, I will put up another Yaki Blue piccy

PS - can anyone give any clues as to how to embed direct from HDD as opposed to uploading to a server somewhere ?

You can't. You need to upload the image to an image hosting site, like Imgur.
 
Then you:

 
then you select the image tab and paste it into here:
