Vertically-challenged Carolina reaper indoor grow 600w HPS's LED Vegatitve growth

It all started here
http://thehotpepper.com/topic/50475-vertical-chilli-grow-indoors-600w-mhhps-lighting/

Then I donated my last grow to an active grow shop owner I knew so I could start seedlings and redo the grow with carolina reapers only.

these are the plants a few weeks ago itching to see them now will update next week on them

It's impossible to see but their are 10 reapers in the tent from pucketbutt seeds.  The plan is to grow them up under LED for 2-3 weeks then pot 9 best ones in 9 of my planters and squeeze them in this tent with a 250w hps pointing at them for 2-3 weeks then I shall clone them 70-100 times over the next week or 2 and fill 72 planters with clones from the reapers and add 2 or 3 600w hps.

There are 48 pots (36 plants) in this picture I will build like this but use all 72 pots with plants and raise the tent to get the needed drainage normally you write 1 pot off per stack for drainage if needed.

This is my mini tent 60cm*60cm*1.2m

Very spooky colour I have no fans running yet but I will next day or 2 the seedlings are small I doubt they need much fresh air yet.

Seedlings are into fytocell I just gave them their first feed ~0.8ec will up to 1 ec in 3 days start ec 0.4.

UK growers feel free to purchase them from ebay now or my shop very soon.

I like the LED colour coming from the tent!
I had a look at your website, I've never seen that growing method before. It was really interesting

They are funky although I am not convinced they're great for flowering under but for early growth they are great. I'm experimenting with micro growing with the vertical for people who want to dabble but on a budget and maybe don't need to grow excessive amounts after all only so many reapers you can eat ha ha ha. I think the micro grow might be ideal for starting walls of plants to put outside as well for early harvests.

This is lamp is a dirt cheap ebay special £100 delivered 100 3w LED but more like 180w in real terms.

Very nice equipment!

But I am sure that you know that yield per square meter wont change.

the final area of the canopy can be achieved with less plants and thus less trouble.

I think this is a good system to use if you plan to grow plants for personal use and have as many varieties as possible.

The seedlings all died :( I've got more underway though

Still the set in the grow shop are coming on nicely chillies are forming. The most unhealthly plants in the wall (The bottom row at the rear) are all Seramis which is very expensive (£1 a litre) and I was trialling to see if I should stock it.

I've decided not stock it :)

Though you guys might like to see the fun of designing your own hydro system The electronics :)

Just ironing out the recirculation pod lots of fun working out how to wire the relays :)

This one simply turns a pump for drainage on/off depending on the position of the float on a user set delay (0-30 mins)
Power off delay relay.jpg

This is the more complex but smarter circuit
Recirculation pod 2.jpg

This one also turns the dripper pump off when the float switch is triggered and keeps the pump off for 1 hour.

The dripper pump is controlled by a timer AND relay! The drain is constant live AND relay the switch is the float switch. You run the drippers on maximum of 1 hour on at a time.

The first circuit is perfect for recirculation but wasteful for DTW, the 2nd one works for both recirculation and DTW and is easily adjustable if needed to control the amount of run off.

the 2nd circuit reduces the amount of nutrients wasted in DTW essentially and is user adjustable.

I'm only offering 1st circuit style recirculation pods at the moment but 2nd circuit type will be an optional extra (it will add 40% to the cost of each recirculation pod) soon once I've ironed the bugs out of it and throughly tested it for 1 grow.

And no you can just use the one relay to control both pumps as when the float switch has returnedto the off position the drippers start up again you need the delay.

The joys of electronics took me most of yesterday to work it out lol.

My seedlings are suffering somewhat but I'm going to pot them into the vertical pots next day or 2 then the environment will be better than the small tent.

The tray full of seedlings is 7 pot Doughlah so I guess I will be doing Doughlah's not Reapers although the polytsytrene cups are reapers.

I think the seedlings might be either

1. Not enough fresh air (This is my No.1 candidate)
2. Need food
3. Burnt by the light but it's only a cfl I would be surprised I had the light a lot closer I raised it yesterday.

Temps are stable 25c and vegged 24/7 so far.

This set is in brand new compost although I will pot them into fyotcell and grow hydroponically.

I would like to make ~ 1500 clones in total from these 1250 for resale and 250 to grow out on a friends land who's agreed to let me erect several  8m by 3m green houses side by side.

Once I pot them up into the larger tent I shall raise co2 ppm to 1400 for the first 2-3 weeks under HPS/MH then they will air breathe to the end. Co2 is expensive in the UK and I cannot use propane burner for safety reasons.

The clones once rooted will be grow on in 1400ppm for 2 weeks before shipping as well.

Cant wait to see them in their new home. The first pic was awesome! Going to go vertical this summer with a wall type of setup.

Feel free to purchase a wall from me :)

My US cousins contact me if interested and I'll try and work something out so you get a reasonable deal.

I should add the grow shop plants don't look so healthy now :( but unfortunately the owner had a crisis over xmas and the plants suffered from no water for 14 days+ with lights on! A Testament to how good Fytocell is that 2/3's survived.

Still inspires me to refill his tent ASAP with Douglah's :)

Should I run them myself in my tent or put them in the grow shop hmmm.

IMG_20150113_1346301.jpg

I decided to pot 21 seedlings up in the grow shop in the end which leaves me 4 Doughlahs and 4 reapers which I'm going repotting into 11l atamis and using as "mums" to fill out my tent.

Also discovered today the dimmable ballast we had the 2 400w pulgged in to were set to 250w all the time lol, will run them for a few days at 250w before moving up to 400w.

I only remembered on the way home but you're not meant to dim MH lamps but they've been dimmed for 2 months now so not going to worry too much now lol.

These are Fytocell obviously fed pure water today tomorrow I will feed a 0.8EC solution and up to 1.2 over the next 21 days as the plants root in and start actively growing.
