Aridzona 2015

After resisting the urge for the last month, the unusually warm weather we've been enjoying has finally overcome any common sense I may posses.     Here I am planting seeds a a month or two earlier than necessary.  I know the plants won't grow wildly over the winter, but with frequent sunny days in the 60s and 70s, they should do OK.  So long as they don't outgrow a ~5 inch pot, shuttling them in and out during freezing weather won't be a problem.

Baccatum, baccatum, which baccatum?

OK, got it down to six.  (For today....   )

Two by two, the seeds went into the ground....  :woohoo:

Hmm, a fan of the baccys much? I'll bite, count me in. Followed!

The scary part is that I've got at least as many Annums to agonize over, and want to grow a few supers too.

I'm going to hold off on these guys since most of my current Chinense plants seem to be more sensitive to cool weather.

Judy's Yellow/Orange Fatalis look yummy but I'm franky terrified of the Brown Moruga (a freebie!) seeds she sent me. I understand they are beyond insane on the heat. (I guess that means I'll have to grow one!)

Muahaha, I love it. Those supers are pretty scary judging by some of the more seasoned members reviews of them. I think Nigel Carter did most of those on YouTube. I love those NuMex varieties, especially the Hatch. I buy several pounds of them every year when they hit the stores around here. I also grew the big Jims and Sante Fe grande last season. They both did pretty well despite my ineptitude, lol. Good luck picking the final list, you may end up starting all of them.

Your list of baccatums sounds tasty. Do they put up with the heat well?

I noticed that Santa Fe Grande was one of the varieties you were agonizing over...

What do you guys think of Santa Fe Grande. Is it like a Fresno or what?

I grew that this year and it was alright. Mild heat and it taste like a watered down jalapeno to me but I'm not that good with flavors. Im not gonna grow it again next season.

I only grew one Baccy this year, an Aji Limon.  The plant did very well with the early summer heat, nearly as well as the SW varieties.  It wasn't entirely happy, but wasn't stunned and stressed like many of the c.chinense were.  Once the monsoonal season arrived, it exploded, becoming one of my biggest plants and producing hundreds of pods. Here's hoping they all do so well!

Dunnow about the SF Grande.  It sounds like a good pepper for 'chomping' off the plant and sharing with others.  If nothing else, it will likely grow well here.

As for 2015....

FIRST UP, a Brazilian Starfish!

The soil and root fragments are from the heroic Aji Limon mentioned above.
The fungal fibers look like mico.  (?)

I'll get this guy outside tomorrow to dry the soil a bit give him a little filtered sun.

I can't wait, haven't been able to post anything meaningful in the community grow yet, lol.
ETH your side of the state is really good for growing plants because of the higher humidity and slightly longer growing season than we have here in Dallas. I'm sure your gonna impress this season. Nice photos Geonerd! I can't get my phone to focus that close.
