HellBoar's glog - starting 2014-11-30

Hi folks!! I am so excited!!!! Here is a pic of my very first germinated seed, a pimenta de neyde that took about a week to get to this point. Have some others that are still in the ziplock/paper towel, but this is my first so far!!! Cute lil guy ain't he? I'll transfer him to a DWC bucket when he gets big/old enough. Hoping my lights arrive before then hehe. Woohoo, I am offcially a creator now!!! ;)

edit: ok he got it

Looks good. PDN seems to be a really slow starter. Once it gets about a foot tall though...

Ill post more once I get more to put into my aerogarden. Heres a pic of where they're stuck at now...patience, patience I keep telling myself lol

well, its 54w per bulb, so 216w I believe ;) Not including the CFL's which I have no idea (not planning on using them at first).

Coming along nicely there HB, are you planning to stay with the T5's for the whole grow or adding in some T8's at some point? Will these be indoor grow only or are you planning to move the DWC outside when the weather permits / put your babies in the ground at plant out? First steps to pod paradise!

Cheers,
RM

Looking like a good start. Hope you have a great growing season
TYVM Scorched, i hope it goes well for me. This being my first season and all, I'm sure I'll make mistakes, but i will also learn a lot from those of you with experience, so thanks for that.

Thanks RocketMan, At the moment, I plan on growing my peppers completely indoors because I live in an apartment, and have no outdoor garden (unless I go like 30 mins out to my parents' place, but thats a lot of travelling every day to check and work on the peppers [time/gas etc]). I don't know what I'll do for additional lighting really, the 4x4ft 54w T5's will get me a start, then I will add CFL's that I already have, and maybe order some more T5's or some T8's later on, I just don't know what's best at the moment. I'll play it by ear I guess. I have some plans to make at least a few plants hydro grown in a DWC system I am gonna build, and might also go the dirt route for some of them, you know experimenting along as I go along.

This is a new hobby for me, and so far, I am having lots of fun with it, learning new things, planning out which seeds to try, the technology aspect, the culinary possibilities, meeting new people and getting helpful advice etc...I am truly grateful.

Thanks ;)

Here's the enclosed balcony I want to convert into my grow area...Lotta work to do, but it shold be perfect once I get it figured out. Already put some plastic on the windows for insulation, but it's still pretty cold out there. Once I leave the door open from my living room, it might help, and the grow lights, when I get them, will hopefully heat it up a bit more to a tolerable level. If not, Ill have to put in a portable heater or something.

The room is great size wise (about 30' x 6'). The windows face all along the SW side of the room, with a vertical window on the end of the SE side. Could be good for added natural light. Anyhow it has potential, what do you guys think? I'm not using it otherwise and it just makes sense to.

Here's my pimenta de neyde #1. Doesn't seem to have grown much since my last update. The second one is of pimenta de neyde #2, one coty broke off on the first day, but aside from that, seems okay. Third space in my aerogarden is a red carribean habanero, can't see it yet, only the roots are out in the sponge, so we'll see it he grows upwards lol.

I know, kinda boring, but I hope to get a good laugh at this once I get more experienced. Thanks for putting up with my newbie enthusiasm ;)
