Came in a pack of Bhut Jolokia seeds

So I purchased the Bhut Jolokia seeds from Pepper Joes, and I am pleased, so far of 3 plants 2 have proven to be the typical BJs.  There is however one that was pointed out to me as possibly being a Habanero.

I`m not an expert and have only been growing hot peppers for a few years now, so some ID help with this pepper would be awesome.

The plant itself does not display the same type of wrinkled leaves as the Bhut Jolokias, but it has grown in a very similar fashion to the shorter of my two confirmed BJs.  A bushy plant with plenty of flowers.  The pepper itself is a vibrant yellow/green and has a few spikey bumps on the pod itself.  The smell of the pepper on the plant is no different than the other BJ's or the Habanero I have growing in the same room.

Here is a picture of the pepper let me know what you think.

Thanks.

I've never purchased from this merchant, however the 'Vendor's Vault' sub-forum has accorded him quite a bit of coverage.

I am still making up a shopping list... and the only 3 merchants i am currently considering are Pepperlover (the proprietor is revered [that's really the only right word] on this forum), Semillas Seeds, and the Buckeye Pepper firm. This is partly due to the strains they make available -- i believe there are several other vendors you would appreciate.

Have a good look at the Vendor's Vault... it's an excellent research resource, and an hour browsing it is one of the cheapest premiums you'll ever pay for 'Crop Insurancde'.

The other really good seed source is other forum members... you'll note, in many glogs, the appreciative remarks members make of others' trades and gifting of seeds.

It has that creamy color that is very reminiscent of a White Bhut Jolokia which tend to be very smooth and look nothing like a bhut.  If it remains white I would say bhut, you'll know when you cut one open, it will smell bhutish!

I grew white bhuts this summer, liked the  chili very much.  Doesnt have blistering heat like the red bhuts and has a nice citrus flavor.

So that white one I have confirmed as a giant white hab,  The heat is that of a habanero and the taste is the same, unfortunately not that buttery pepper smell that a bhut has.

I ordered some bhuts from pepper joe and they came out looking like this. i emailed him stating that i thought they were something else, and he replied they are the "regular ghost"...they look like a savina, but much hotter...not sure what to make of that.....

I got regular ghost last year at my local store first time available they got them form papa Joe's
They did not look like that but matched ghost pictures I have seen and only a silver melted my buddies faces off.
I agree with you those look like red savina .
Since they are hotter maybe they are crossed with ghost.

The only reason a lot more people don't get conned by dishonest seed merchants is because of the (mostly) calm and objective statements members make on the appropriate thread in the Vendor's Vault.

Remember, the more accurately and objectively you record your experience with a seed vendor, the more effectively you protect others from this... aaannnd, the more you deprive dishonest merchants of their livelihood.

It's the costliest thing you can (legally) do to a shady character, and the kindest thing you can do for everybody else.

Just a little follow up, i contacted Pepper Joe, about my unhappiness with a ghost pepper that comes out looking like a red savina habenero. To make a long story short hes going to send me another packet of ghosts. So i wont bash on the guy too much, his customer service did come through, now its only a matter of how long it will take for the seeds to get to me, and see how they turn out. Stay tuned.

To answer the question on how he gets so many customers, i think pepper noobies like me... "google" super hot seeds, and his site is one of the first ones to come up. He does have a lot of videos and links, and from a glance he does look like he knows what hes talking about. its only until you get your product producing fruit that you realize you didnt get what you want. Thats when people like me hit the forums and get the gist of who is really reputable and who isnt.
Anyways lesson learned, this is only a hobby for me...so i wont sweat it too much....onward and upward! ha

Helluva commendable attitude... i could take lessons from you. Sometimes, when i'm vexed with a gardening problem, i utterly forget that i indulge in this hobby because it's relaxing....

I still say that's one drop-dead gorgeous plant you've got there... i'll look in the Growing and Grow Tech forums for any wisdom you'd care to share on that.
