Macadamia Nuts are Toxic to Dogs

Just in case you didn't know. My vet didn't know. $200 vet bill and they still didn't know what was wrong. A couple weeks later (said dog not really getting better, he won't eat, so I keep giving him treats, macadamia nuts!) and the Korean Nut lady happened and I was trying to find the story to send to a friend and reading up on macadamia nuts and what do you know? The only mammal yet found to have a toxic reaction to macadamia nuts is the dog. It isn't fatal, but does make them sick. Trust me on this.

I let my vet know. Hmmmmmm, maybe I should send the vet a bill for educating them. Say $400?

Hmm mine ate some (2 or 3) but didn't get sick.. What dog do you have and how many did you feed them?

Some things like raisins, grapes, chocolate and bean plants are also toxiciteit. My dog managed to eat a poisonous mushroom once.. 1600 euro vet Bill due to kidney failure. . She now eats diet chow of 115 euro per 20 kg bag.

I started to use some old nuts as treats so 3 or 4 a day, over several days. Then he started losing his appetite, so more nuts, since he wasn't eating. I finally took him to the vet. They gave me some pain killers and appetite boosters, but I stop giving him the nuts at the same time. I learned about the nuts a couple of weeks after I had stopped giving them to him. My other two dogs really didn't slow down much like he did. He completely stopped eating. I read they are not lethal, but they will make dogs very sick.

Yeah and chocolate too. No big vet bill  cause the vet said she didn't eat too much, but a bunch of money for new carpet because of all the puke stains.

Onions, garlic, avocados and hops too! I even read bacon can give them pancreatitis. It's a wonder our poochies survive.

I'll make note of that. No hops for the dog. Keep the beer for me. :D

All of these things make them sick, yet they have no issues with eating that dead bird they found laying on the sidewalk,.
