Stickman's 2015 - That's All She Wrote...

Hi All! It's been an incredibly busy winter dealing with one thing and another, and it's only about half over here.  Still, it's time to get on the stick and put my seeds in the dirt in preparation for plant-out in another 12 weeks or so. I have a Manzano over-wintering inside that's going on its third year. It's next to a sliding glass door with a great southern exposure but the light it gets here this time of year is pretty paltry... I expect it'll start to perk up sometime in March. I have a couple of MoA Scotch Bonnets over-wintering at a friend's house because there wasn't space in front of the sliding glass door for them and my wife's indoor plants... the deal is that if they both survive the winter, we'll split the plants. If not, he'll keep the one that lives. That seems fair since he did all the work. ;)

The rest of the list is looking like this...

Pubiscens Varieties
Total bust this year... nothing that germinated survived.

Baccatum:
Ditto

Frutascens:
Tabasco
Hawaiian Bird chile

Chacoense:
Ditto

Chinense:
7-pot Yellow Turned out to be a red "Not"
MoA Scotch Bonnet
Beni Highlands... Also turned out to be a "Not"... maybe a Mako Akokrosade cross?
Ja Hab
Trinidad Perfume
Zavory

Annuum:
Cabe Rawit (mouse turd pepper, in Singapore where the seeds were collected they're called Cili Padi)
Red Thai
Biggie Chile Anaheim

Poblano Gigantia
Jalapeno Ciclon
Jalapeno Tormenta
Serrano Tampiqueno
Hungarian Hot Wax
Almapaprika
Ethiopian Brown Berbere

I'll also be planting a sweet Criolla de Cucina plants and about 20 sweet Kurtovska Kapijas. The Kapijas have the longest growing and ripening times of any Annuum I know, but they're big, meaty sweet peppers that average around a half a pound apiece... just the thing for making that eastern european condiment called Ajvar.

Too tired to say more now, but will pick up later... Cheers!

Thanks guys, I'm glad to be back underway again!

Whatssss upppp rickkkkkk lol....good luck to your grow....im just starting again after a bad infestation that killed all my plants 10 months ago, so im here gonna try again....
Hey Jericson... the Hawaiian Bird chiles will be from your seeds. I grew my first Fruts last season and am hooked on homemade Louisiana-style hot sauce made with them. :)

Here's a pic of the OW Manzano. Looking a bit spindly just now, but beginning to put out new leaves slowly. The wine bottle you see upended in the pot is filled with water and inserted into a "plant nanny" watering spike. I just love those things! All I have to do is keep the bottle from emptying out, and the plant gets the water it needs with the minimum of fuss. As you can see from the pic, the upper layer of soil is bone dry too, so no Fungus Gnats like I've had in previous years. The water is only distributed at the roots!!

Thanks guys. :)

Jamie... the brown 7-pot Bubblegum and 7-pot Lava seeds are yours.

I've got to clean and tidy up the growing area down cellar before starting seeds, and I'll need another bale of Pro-mix... probably start germination in a couple of weeks... say about President's Day.

Great to see you back for another season Rick. Hopefully it wasn't to much trouble digging out after that storm yesterday.

No trouble at all Terry... Worcester, and to a lesser extent, Boston got the brunt of it. We only got 3 inches but the wind blew and drifted it a bit.  How was it in Jersey?

BTW... did you try the Louisiana-style hot sauce yet Jamie?

Oh, Ajvar!
Welcome home, Rick. The Manzano is looking good.
Nice well-rounded and studied list.

Awright, Rick!  Welcome back to the growlogosphere!

Your grow list reads like an international Who's Who!

Money's tight enough this year that I won't be growing as many hot pepper varieties... more vegetables! I still have to keep my hand in somehow though... ;)

Glad to see your new glog up. looking forward to the updates of plants to be jealous of!

nice list too, good balance of heat, flavour and sweet.

That's what I'm aiming for G... a good balance. I've got enough dried and stored from the Korean and most of the Mexican varieties that I don't have to grow them to replenish my stock for another year or two

All right. Rick is back in glog forum for the new year.

When do the seeds hit the dirt?

Probably in a couple weeks Jeff... I have to tidy up the basement and clean the growing area first. I'll have them in to germinate by at least President's Day.

Oh, cool, a glog I'm not already pages behind on.  Welcome to the 2015 growing season, Rick.

I hear ya Buzz... I'm gonna try for a more restful style this year... ;)   You too?

Rick, wanted to say Good Luck in 2015 but from your past glog it doesn't appear you rely on luck at all in your approach to growing peppers.  Here's to another successful year in 2015 and hurry up and get those seeds in some dirt already!

Great looking list for the year Rick but uh, no Gochu's? You must have a heck of a supply stashed away :)

Have a great week brother!

Whaaat. No gochu?? List looks great. Happy growing

True, that... no Gochus this year... I have 2 quarts of powder and 2 gallon-sized ziplok bags of dried pods from last year, so I'll give 'em a rest until I work through my reserves. :)
