ID please, was in Reaper Seed pack.

I bought a pack of Reaper seeds 12 months ago... Several of the plants were a great quality reaper strain however I had one unusual plant grown from the batch,

Initially I thought it may have been an F8 throw back or something from the seeds and expected it to look more 'Reaperish' as time went on however it just continued with the same pod shapes.

The pods are large jellybean sized, glossy and smooth, they initially start out looking like a Savina Habanero but quickly the little tail they have folds underneath and sits flat to the bottom of the pod but is not Scorpionish, the pods are also somewhat elongated.

Cutting them open they have a very decisive seed pattern and the placenta drips with oil.

The pods have a sweet crunchy wall and the pods burn like a reaper.

I don't know what they REALLY represent and want some thoughts.

Who did you get the seeds from? Could be an unintentional cross or could be a strange pheno. Rumor has it that it originally began as a cross between a Bhut Jolokia and a Red Habanero (Savina?). From there they kept growing out and choosing particular pheno's that had the traits they were looking for. It's possible you got a throwback pheno that was discarded for whatever reason but never fully left the gene pool. I suggest you keep those seeds and grow them out for a couple seasons just to see what they become.

I cant remember who I got them from, it was one of the bigger suppliers in the UK . .  Yeah I plan on growing out a few F's on them to see what happens, I might even throw them into a Douglah cross or something and see what comes out. Thanks for your opinions.

While the Reaper seems mostly stable, people are still getting a variety of odd shapes. Since it tastes like one, I agree with the posts above that state it's either an example of continuing Reaper instability or a cross.

If I remember right, the carolina reaper said to be a cross of sweet habanero x a naga. Those pics are very hab-ish.

I'm pretty sure the reaper has been stated to be every mix of peppers available so far lol..
I marked the seed bag as " Reaper / Habanero ?? " lol so I definetly agree with you..

It did have a very sweet, fresh slightly fruity flavour and a lot of heat.. I haven't eaten one in a while now so In my mind it was up there with a butch T, I'll have to grow out the next batch and see if there the same and re-test. As I was trying to be a purest with what I was growing and it WASNT a reaper and I had it in a 42 Litre pot and taking up space I sold it off.. I sort of wish I kept it now as it was pretty special,  I did take several pods and harvested the seeds though.. and have several seedlings atm..

I'm exited to see if there F2 or if they stay stable .. I will se what comes of the plants and make seed available with results posted in the coming months.
