Coffee! Why can't peppers germ this fast?

I decided to try something a little off the wall.  I am a coffee roaster.  I decided to try to germinate some green coffee (unroasted) to see if it would grow.  After a 36 hour soak, I already have tap roots growing!  Why can't peppers be this easy?

Pepper plants have evolved to produce seeds with a high oil content and thick coating that allows them to pass unharmed through the digestive system of a bird
the pepper plant’s preferred method of seed dispersal in the wild.
The same qualities that make the seed indestructible while traveling through the intestines of a bird also make them a challenge to germinate.

(I have that in my note that I had grab from the net)

I have had xalapas germ within 24 hours. paper napkin, ziplock bag and 92 degrees.

The top 2 rows are Paupa New Guinea Kimel A, the bottom 2 are Ethiopian Queen City Harrar.
Ever come across any authentic Cuban bean? I used to get some of the best espresso at a Cuban bakery in WPB.

As a matter of fact I have a tiny bit.  About 7 1/2 oz.  Shhh  Im not sure how legal it is lol.  Its yours if you want it.  It green right now.  If your not a roaster, I can roast it for you as well.  I would just need the desired roast level, although I suggest city+ for this particular bean.

Oh No. If I can grow it, I would be in coffee heaven. It is germ-able correct? I did say germable, not gerbil.

It is in the same condition as my other coffees that I just germinated.  I can throw a few beans in a cup and test it for you.  Or I can just send some your way and let you try it.  Do you want the whole bag, or just 20 beans to germinate?
That is funny as hell btw...

Lets go with 20 to germ now, as to the rest, Keep it green, keep it safe.

Warning! I placed the beans on a standard paper towel starter tray. They were quickly taken over by mold. So just soak them and the plant them if you are trying this!

Soak for how long? Did the 36 hour soak contribute to the fungus susceptibility do you think?
I have no clue if the soak did it or not.  I did 36 hours though.  After the soak the seed coat was mostly gone except for a few little spots.

My Castors are above ground in 24 hrs often.  Never tried coffee, where did you get pre-roasted seed?
I belong to a coop that orders hundreds of pounds of beans directly from farms across the world.  They then distribute it to whomever wants it in the coop at cost plus like 25 cents a pound.  They even have professional tasters that rate the coffee and decide if it is up to the coops standards prior to bulk ordering.

You can order similar coffees off ebay and amazon though.  Just search for green coffee.  It is usually cheaper than roasted stuff, and 100x the quality.  The most Ive ever paid was $10 a pound, and that was amazing amazing coffee.  Ive ordered from rhondas roasts on amazon and been very happy.

The roasting process is very simple as well, and cheap.  I use a air popcorn popper I bought for like $20.  Google will explain the roasting process better than I can though.

I think the pepper seeds will germ pretty fast using the same method. 2 - 3 days.

I bought some green beans from "Sweet Maria's", and got a used West Bend Poppery2 off ebay.  There were some nice brews but I thing my inexperience didn't help.  Too many hulls mixed in I think.

My 14 year old daughter has had some baurista training so it was fun for us.

Might try it again though!

Beans I tried;

Guatemala Huehuetenango Finca Regalito
Peru Vicente Palero Roque
Hawaii Kona Kowali Farm Typica

I think I liked the Kona best but again, newby.

I use a poppery 2 as well, and got it off of eBay.  I used another no name popper I got while I was deployed one year and had just as good results.

My advise for newbies...  Attach a really long extension cord to your popper.  It will slow down your roast times to give you more accuracy.  Always know what roast level your shooting for, and know the audible sounds and times associated.  For reference, Full City is a good all around level.  As soon as you hear that second crack start, pull it.  It also starts to smoke at this point as well.  Almost all of your chaff should be gone by now, but I still hand pick off any that remains the best I can.

If you have only tried those beans, pick up some Africans.  IMO they are superior in every regard.  I never use South American coffees anymore.  Mass produced coffees come from South America.  So if you like Folgers then roast away at them.  I personally do not.

Wait at least 12 hours before grinding/drinking.  Put the coffee in a sealed container.  When you open it up after the 12 hours you will bet the most awesome coffee smell pouring out.

I got some fresh kona cherries... I'm going to try to germ mm it first I read I need to ferment first to have pulp come off. Then dry...then soak ... couldn't I just skip the air drying ?
