Leaves going black, Whats the problem?

Hi

The leaves on some of my chilli seedlings are going black and some are going wrinkled?, I have them under a growlight system. I had the light about an inch or so above the highest growth. the soil temp is around 20C I have now raised it a little as I have also added a capillary water reservoir to it today. is/was the light to close? picture below.

Yes, I thought so I have moved the lights a little more away will have to see how its goes, also some of the leaves are a little wrinkled what could cause this as these don't all seem black?

They look like they are stretching a lot for the light to be too intense. That purple color is also a sign they could need fed. A phosphorous deficiency will look like that sometimes. Have they been fed,or waterlogged at all?

Ive been keeping them on the dry side more than anything. for feed I haven't other than the nutrients that are in the seedling soil. didn't think I had to feed them till they flower?

Do you water with cold water?   I water mine with 55 degree water from a well, and I have alot of purpling on my peppers.

cold water from tap, but its now setup on a capillary reservoir so by the time the plant get the water its at room temp. so for feeding what would you recommend? could I feed from the top as I say they are on a capillary system now so not sure the feed would get through to the plant as well?

Thanks

I had two or tree like that last year, same feeding as the rest, but they was black all the time, not a problem in my place.

Hi

I'm having the same problem with some of my plants and still haven't managed to figure out what causes it. I've never seen this before and I'm using the exact same set up and soil as previous years except for one thing - a fan. Could it be poor air circulation and/or overheating? I've moved the lights up a bit and purchased a new fan so we'll see what happens the next couple of days.

A little purple on the leaves or a "sun tan" is normal. You don't want tham to become leggy however.
I agree, this time however the leaves fall off after getting dark which is not normal :)

How much water are your plants getting?
I water every three days which is when the soil is getting pretty dry, and I water until it starts dripping out from underneath the pots.

Are your leaves wilting at all? Pepper plants can wilt becasue of too little as well as too much water.
