New Topic under "Pepper Talk"

It may have already been suggested or looked at.. But is there a chance of getting a new Topic called Pepper Varieties. And having each pepper type topic Pinned.. eg.
 
 
- 7 Pot Barrackapore
 
- 7 Pot Bubblegum
 
- 7 Pot Jonah Yellow
 
- Butch T Scorpion
 
etc etc..
 
Have them pinned so they stay alphabetical and that way people can go in and find a particular pepper there looking into and find all relevant pics of various peoples pods, seed trade talk, geno etc etc.. and if someone wants a pepper ID they can be reffered back to the topic ot look at other examples etc..

It will also give the new up and coming hybrids a place to be talked about and when they are more "official ' they can be pinned ...
 
I know this would be a big hit on this site... I'd be happy to help with getting it setup if needed  to...

c2c is kinda like that, has less features and isn't stickied in order but whatev.
i tried to do that on my wiki because people really seem to want a database but people haven't really bought in and are contributing yet.
 
I too think it would be an awesome resource! Juanitos, unfortunately your wiki does not have the public face that a place like this forum does. I think if it was done here it would get a ton of traffic.

I can however see that it would require quite a bit of moderation to make it successfully. The categories could be made by the public by just making new topics. Mods would have to be constantly stickying those and changing the sort order to keep it alphabetic. Also they would have a lot of merging threads. People in general are stupid unfortunately, and I can see duplicate categories being made often due to people's inability to actually look through the list to see if a type already exists.
 
This is not ideal for a forum setup, in the example given no one is using it. There is 1 reply to each post and it is just the admin adding the pics. So bad example.

We've had a pepper database in the works for some time now (2012), which is tied to the forum, but to visit you go to the database and it looks more like a wiki (and acts like one too but with permissions), and when you comment, it comments in the forum with a mirror topic so you can read it in the forum or the db, but on the db site, it is very orderly. It's been in the works a few years, but we should have it up this year. There's a few projects in the background, they take time.

oh nice, mine will be overshadowed once you release yours lol. too bad it's taking so long.
 
I understand as a forum what they tried to achieve at pepper friends is not the best example, I simply refered to the category postings for each pepper.. And in relation to that site, we have no idea about how much traffic / interest it recieves and as it is in Italian it's hard to say if they had the population that read and write it to support such a big endeavour ..

I also wonder if moderators are able to lock topic creation and just lock it down to there own topics thereby making a selection of peppers... And if a person wishes to discuss or add a new pepper have the very top topic as "want to add a pepper to talk about?"
And have them be able to request a be pepper in there to be added at a later time by a moderator .. The ability to discuss an individual pepper under its own banner without it being lost in a sea of posts would be in my mind (with the evolution of peppers as they are atm) very we'll received and wanted.

moderation should only happen occasionally for this thread if it can be locked down to a certain point with that request page , and as mentioned above it will act in some ways like an encyclopaedia but in More ways be a way to discuss best Geno's and the like
 
Like I said that will not happen. But if you wish to add your thoughts to our pepper database that is in development I provided the link. :)
