Bumper's Glog

Figured I would set up my own thread rather than photobomb everyone else's.  Just finishing setting up a new grow tent,  so will post some pics of the plants outside and the new set up over the next few days.  Cheers, Bumper.

Hence me setting up the grow tent and ordering some known seeds to do this properly.   ;)

Does your season ever end? Or are you able to grow year round?

Also, you can directly add your pics to the thread by using tags, or the Image button in the reply box...

Nice pods btw...

More pics to come, but here's one of my new heat n grow pad with choc habanero, aiji lemon drop, orange habanero and tobasco seeds getting all hot and humid in there.  soaked them in paper towels with chamomile tea for 24 hours, they all swelled up nicely. The tobasco are a bit old so will see how they go.  Figure I will get these going, and do some more when we get on the other side of winter for the outdoor crop.

And now the grow tent, with bhut jolkia and orange habanero.  Plants are in 2 gallon pots.
Plants look healthy....how long have you been using LEDs and what are your thoughts on em?

Lol it's day 1 Runescape!

I spent a couple of hours cleaning soil from roots, hosing them down and scouring leaves for bugs before potting them up in brand new pots and mix and putting them in the tent.  These are first year's, about 5 months old in 2 gallon pots, both with about 10 pods each of various stages of maturity.  I'll do an update in a couple of weeks to show progress.  In terms of the tent, it's sitting nicely at 23c with good airflow, so they put out a lot less heat than MH or HPS.

Looks like you actually well ahead of me Bumper! I have a handful of vegie seedlings just as a test in my grow fridge and no chillies yet. Seeds will be planted in May for me.

After seeing yours though I may start them sooner! Is your grow tent inside the house or in a shed garage?

Inside - just a little fella, 1.2 x 1.5 x 0.6 ebay special.  I would need a heater for the garage, as we go down to -7 in winter here.

Just realised I didn't respond to the seasonal question.  We have a short season, which prompted setting up the grow tent. Which brings me to a question - what to do with about 4 pounds of green cayenne pods that refuse to turn red?

The Aiji lemon drop's came up a couple of days ago, getting them as close to the T5 daylight bulbs as I can, hanging out with some ficus bonsai in development.  How long before I should put these in with the mature plants?  I have to say it has been a stressful transition for the bhut and orange habanero having been outside all summer, they have dropped a few leaves, a couple yellowed and have been curling their leaves when the lights are on, but have a timer running on for 2 and off for 2 etc and they are looking much better today and are pushing out some more flower heads.

And now the established plants

Habanero first, top view and side view, then Bhut top view and side view.  As you can see, they are not entirely happy yet, but not dead either!  Recent dropped leaves cleaned out after shot

I built a little seedling raiser today, a couple of T5's on timer - aiji lemon under them now and looking mighty happy.  Extra shelves for storage is handy too!

My aiji lemon seedlings, getting their groove on with the fan.

Cayennes, thai's and serrano's on the drying rack, and one of the bigger cayenne pods.  Thank goodness the big one's are starting to ripen, there is about 4 pounds of them still on the bushes!

Nice pods, man...

Thanks Runescape. Update on the LEDs ref your earlier post.  The plants have got through their transitional sulking and are lapping up the light.  I think they are awesome, and love the lack of heat they throw out and the pods are swelling up nice and big, and they are starting to put out new flowers rather than drop them.  My grow tent isn't getting above 25c either so I'm happy with my investment!

nice looking seedlings ... the bhut and cayenne pods also.... I can't wait to pick some of my own again ... august seems so far away

Nice to see the tent is working out well for you, I'm thinking of grabbing one myself to make it through the Canberra winter.

That's why I had to bring the bhut and hab inside, too many chilli projects I wanted to do to wait another full year, it seemed like an eternity!

Hey Dotmark, nice to see another fellow Canberran on the forum!  Couldn't recommend it highly enough.  If you get one going now, you can have really established plants ready to grow by November.  Ebay has pretty well priced tents, in fact I only bought one led light from the local hydro store, and even that I could have picked up a lot cheaper.  If you do go down this path send me a PM and I might be able to assist with good shops to deal with online.  Been pretty lucky with set up actually.
