Whats the deal with Strawberry's?

I can't seem get then to grow in ground or in a pot and most that do are all tiny & deformed - Whats the trick to get them to grow and produce?

Don't ask me, I had luck with them growing and they survived repeated waves of attack from snails, but my biggest fruit was about the size of a dime so I obviously did something wrong

But I tended to water them when I watered my tomato and ppeppers and fed them the same as far as fish emulsion and seaweed extract.

I had the same problem for the past two years. I think it just because I suck at growing them due to inexperience.
I'm pretty sure that I have narrowed the problem down to:
1. Inconsistent watering
2. Prolly shoulda gave them a few more feedings
3. Slugs N' Snails

I haven't tried growing them in the ground. Mine are in containers. I think I will also move the containers to a place where I will see them more often. I have ADD and if it's outta sight then it's pretty much outta mind also. That should take care of the watering and feeding.
I'm gonna surround my pots with pennies to keep out the Slugs N' Snails.

I've never had to do anything too exciting to get strawberries to grow. I put them in a pot with some potting mix, water every couple days, and watch them grow. The trick is keeping my toddler away from the plants so that the rest of us get to enjoy them too.

I haven't had much luck either. This year I planted a six pac of them in my above ground garden along with about 10 tomato plants. I will update its progress. Anytime they were planted directly in the ground I've had no luck.

I would like to try growing them in some guttering like I've seen on Pinterest. I just haven't had time to mess with it.

I planted a few last year. One survived and surprised maybe coming to life this spring. Full of leaves and flowers! Until the rabbits found it... I moved it somewhere safe and it has new leaves but I think it might be too late to hope for fruit...

I like to grow mine in a bag of soil. Here is the process. Buy bag of soil. Drop on ground. Poke 10-20 holes in bag. Flip over. Cut hole in top of bag. Plant strawberry. That's it. If you have any laying around you can stick a length of PVC tubing into the middle of the bag about 2/3rds deep. Helps with watering. The bag allows the soil to drain well(they like sandy/loamy soil) and the raised bag keeps the fruit off the ground. Works great.
Something like this pic I found online.

I planted a six pac last week in my raised garden where my tomatoes are growing. I'll let you know how they do in this environment.

An old gentlemen used to let his strawberries run lengthways in his veggie patch in the front garden. He would cover each little cluster from the runner with a glass/tall tumbler when it is still cold at night - and that would keep the strawberries surviving.

I found out they like acidic soil 5.5-6.8 and a mulch. Also plating them the correct height is very important which I was also doing wrong. I just took them out of my raised bed when the tomatoes took over and they were not getting any light. I planted them under my young trees with mulch. Take a look at this link for further care for strawberries.
