Yes, very cool to look at. But I'll stay away, as it reminds me too much of the pyracantha my parents had while I was growing up. That and all the cacti. Hurt like a b**** to back into one of those while weeding the bed!

Really cool looking plant, Pson. That reminds me of solanum integrifolium. Hopefully ikeepfish will chime in here with pics of his seedlings.

edit: pyracanthum is one of the weirdest looking plant's I've seen.

!!!! I'm learning about new solanums all the time

S. integrifolium (aka S. aethiopicum) didn't come up in my first round but I'm starting more this weekend as well as a few others I got from another member.  I do have some S. nigrum L. plants right now though.  They have very datura-looking leaves on them.  (I also have two datura species being overwintered, as well as henbane, black mandrake, Jerusalem cherry, and one really pitiful looking scopolia plant that I don't think will make it)  I'm always looking for cool nightshades to grow..  That one reminds me of S. sisymbriifolium.

Is that one edible?

They are edible like most Solanums are. That being said,I would not suggest eating these to anybody, and would hope people growing wild Solanums do it for the beauty of the plant. There is nothing to be gained by eating them. Muricatum, quintoense, etc. are species grown for consumption.

Most solanum species are only edible when cooked keep in mind. Unripe berries of many of them can kill you in a violent diarrhea fashion. Like S. dulcamara or S. carolinense

yeah it is a holy cactus, you bump into it and that is what happens, you become holy.  I have become holy several times ouch!!

I wonder if S. pyracanthum has any problems with insects?  It looks like it has more thorns than it has edible matter for insects.
