Alrighty folks! It's almost plant out time and that means that my basement and lights are going to be freed up for some crossing projects through the summer.

I have 4 DWC buckets available for growing peppers indoors all summer. (not to mention racks for seedling growout)
2 spots are already taken by White Fatalii and CGN-21500.

These Plants will be the Base for all my other crosses. Meaning that I will use pollen from plants that are outdoors in the rest of my collection crossed with these. These will be tagged and harvested and grown out in the basement to choose phenos. I'm planning on going for taste more than heat.

Plants to choose from

My biggest focus will be crossing the White Fatalii with CGN-21500 but will do plenty of other crosses with them as well.

Y'all are more than welcome to offer suggestions as to what you would like to see crossed with what as well. I'm sure I will be sharing seeds with most of you at some point (prolly F2? maybe some F1's)

I'm looking at trying a few Bell X ??? myself this season. I'd imagine it would definitely be doable, but would take a few generations, and some potential back-crossing. But what doesn't?
Keep me posted on this! I was going to start my experiment in early January probably as ill have to wait until most of the harsh winter days are over. Not sure what my whole zone is, I'm sure its just a Google answer away.

Would be awesome to get a few people doing this to share results

I should start getting fruit around January. If you want, I could cross a few varieties (or try to anyway) and send you the product seeds, so you could grow out F1 right away, when your season starts. And then when it ends, mine starts, and so on... we could have 8 generations done in 4 years. Anyway, I've got a list of what I'm growing this season in my glog, so if there's any crosses that interest you, let me know!

Yes, absolutely! I am mainly interested in trying to grow the biggest fattest super hot but would love to help on any crosses you're working on as well.

That's an excellent idea to expedite the process, ill try and track down your Glog during downtime at work tomorrow.

I've got a Glog as well if you'd like to check it out. It's mainly over wintering a few peppers and trying to grow a few Kratky hydro style. Mainly looking for other people with the passion to share experiences and expertise with.

This is what Sentenced to burn and I are doing as well. Since he's in kiwi land our seasons are opposite so can halve the amount of time it takes to stabilize something.

Sounds like we need to get to work on a community project on "TheHotPepper" special pepper cross, getting a handful of people crossing for a community based goal.

Try using this as the seed parent then backcross as necessary. https://www.rareseeds.com/yellow-monster-pepper/

What is the purpose of the netting over top? Pests/animals or a sort of support system?

I can't imagine big pepper leaves will fit through the netting

Hey its the strawberries there, but I cant seem to close the net all the way from the top so the birds still get in there. Getting a few wire-mesh domes sorted this weekend so my kids can actually have some strawberries instead of feeding the birds.
