Rural or Urban

I'm urban.

With a rural heart.

Grew up in a town that still has a population less than 6K.  During my teenage years I remember thinking 'man, as soon as I'm old enough I'm leaving this podunk shanty town and moving to Chicago!'.

So I did.

And Chicago was a wonderful city.  For a spell.  Specifically the spell between the ages of maybe 20 - 30.  After about 30 you start to become more intimately acquainted with the corruption and the crime.  The taxes and the tif districts.  And yet still I loved it; the accessibility, the diversity, the sheer amount of options for any and everything your heart could desire - and most of it at any hour of the day or night ready to be had.

Then kids came along.  And now I think back to that tiny town where you never had to lock the front door and you knew the names of every family up and down your block.  How I was able to roam far and wide free as a young lad to chase crawdads and catch channel cats, how my bike and I could go where ever I might want in a days ride..  How different that is now.  Sadly different for me at least.

Suburban.  Really itching to go rural though.  I'd love to have a few acres to work with.  If I could get my wife to go on board, I would have already made the move.  She's not too keen on it though.

I'm urban. Grew up on a farm dreaming of big city lights and the military was my ticket out. First two marriages I lived the farm life. Last two marriages were here in Wichita-the last one leaving me homeless for awhile. Now I grounds keep and live behind a economy inn. The river to my north, railroad on my east, and a major road to my west ...what could an old hippie want more. At my age now I'm just happy to be alive and still able to garden ( can't get those stray cats to do everything yet ).

I live on 3/4 acres in a town with a population of about 25 . I have a corn field on the other side of my tree line. I am more rural than anything.

Rex (sirex) Ark city was where my father was born. I would have been born in Noel, MO but my mom was not having some backwoods doctor so she dragged my father to Wichita for the birth of me. After that my father took us back to the sticks.

Urban on a ~1/4 Acre plot.

I was born and raised on a farm for the first 18 years of my life. I did everything from scooping poop to driving tractors and other equipment. While I was in high school I got a job at a restaurant as a dish washer, then quickly moved to cook.

After finishing high school, I went off to college and moved around for a while, ultimately finishing my university studies in a city north of Dallas, and ended up getting a plot of my own in North Dallas.

While I don't have a ton of space, I try to do my best with it.
