chinense Dear Orange Habanero

Dear Orange Habanero,

It’s been a long ride. From the first time I saw you years ago in the isle of the grocery store. I thought to myself finally something that can give me more than just the standard Jalapeno. We’ve shared many years of memories together. Being able to boast about eating you raw impressed many. The mention of your name struck fear in hearts at the dinner table. But it turns out my ignorance had me settling for less than I deserved.

There are so many others out there that I haven’t had the pleasure to explore. And lets face it, this just isn’t working out. You don’t do it for me anymore. Matter of fact I can’t even stand the sight of you. I cringe when I hear your name.  I’ve been reaching out and quite frankly I have found better matches for me on THP.com. This is goodbye. I’m leaving you…..

Sincerely
Yellowfin 2na
PS Even the chocolate habanero is better than you!

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the last orange habanero I will ever spend money on at a grocery store

So that means you're going to grow your own now instead of buying them, right?

NEVER give up on a staple! It's the one that got you loving peppers.

Enjoy your journey through the world of superhots, there are plenty of nice ones.... but you'll be back.

Absolutely. I should have been more clear. Im talking about the typical orange habanero from a grocery store. Although I have never had a fresh off the plant orange habanero I am confident I would like it.

Im just saying now that I have tasted the ripe pods Im growing for the first time, I have really been missing out all these years.

I don't know about everybody else, but I like the taste of a freshly grown habanero much more than a store bought one. I've noticed that when I pop one in my mouth fresh off the plant it tastes much more perfumy, but not so much peppery. The store bought ones are just plain peppery and I hate that

Better than a Red Savina, a MoA or a Bahamian goat?

I'm growing all those this season! One was seed I ordered and others were the generosity of members here!

I hear the OP though. Only recently graduated from standard orange habanero from the supermarket.

Super looking forward to both enjoying more varieties that we often are limited to and making poppers with other peppers!

You have no idea what you missed. They taste fantastic fresh. Hotter than normal if you grow them right also.

I wouldn't know :D Although I did grab a pack of MOA from Judy, I was caught up in bullshirt when I should have been germinating. Have to pop them for indoors, though nothing I've grown inside has been very pungent.

my neighbor is growing quite a few different colored habs this year. I'm looking forward to tasting the different varieties.

I gotta say, I have never been a big fan of the Red Savina. I thought I would enjoy it, but it has this overwhelming olfactory punch (also a reason I disliked fatalii for anything other than sauce) and chemical bitterness that just doesn't sit well with me. Perhaps one of the other types of Habs would be better.

This year though, I am growing Judy's MoA and I can tell you right now its easily the best tasting Chinense I have had. Fruity and sweet without that floral/chem punch in the face. I started this along side 2x Ecuadorian Sweet (not rocoto) from SL3, and after having tried both I definitely should have gone with 2x MoA instead.
