Front Yard Garden Laws

Have been noticing more and more there are stories about people getting in trouble with their municipality for growing food in their front yard.  Friend turned me on to one story where the neighbors did not even complain.  Someone from town council was driving by, saw her tomato and started the process of fining her for a front yard garden.

A friend shared the story while I was on break from working the main garden out back.  I read it, finished my break, and went outside to start planting ghost peppers along the road side garden.  Ye, I sholdnt live in a municipality.

Suburban living has it's drawbacks. I live in a pretty large town 65k people and the township is pretty hands off. Some of the smaller neighboring towns 2k residents sadly have many more ordinances that they must abide by.

Yes, America the free. You are free to move to a town or neighborhood that allows you to do whatever you want on you property.
Just for the record, I do grow tomatoes and peppers in my front beds.

I always preached to the City Folks, if you want to do that you need to move to the County. Not so anymore. Most counties are moving their Code Compliance Offices into their Old Fire Stations in the Rural areas. They are on the hunt for every last dime they can take from you. I sure miss when living out in the country meant living freely. Another reason I can't wait to get out of California. Ah, just one more year to go.

and that my folks is why i live out in the country / woods by the river . i get no permit to do anything i just do it . no rules here and no rats !     :onfire:

Moruga, on no rats... yep most people here know who is growing what and who hunts off season.  If they have to do it to feed their family, more power to them.  If they have a license plate from out of county, then they get spoken to in person.  No need to involve outside law enforcement because we have a neighborhood.

Thing is, it seems more and more that the forces that be do not want folk to rely on their neighbors.  Hard to really put into words.
