Hello!

Hello! :P  I'm Hazel, a relatively recently enthused pepper...enthusiast. I took an interest in growing chili peppers in August of last year (awkward season!) after having seen Fatalii's bonchi guide. I started a few serranos and Caribbean Reds last summer and overwintered them, picked up an unidentified ornamental chili along the way and started a few new varieties (trying Malagueta, Piquin, Trinidad Smooth and Trinidad Perfume) after ordering some seeds from Pepperlover.com. I'm working with a six foot balcony so I only have one or two plants of each variety in 5 gallon pots. I have altogether too much energy to direct into these plants and do my very best to leave them alone unless they need something- the balcony opens right into my living room so it's too easy to just hang out and watch them!

I've found lurking these forums to be an invaluable resource in both information and inspiration- looking through the grow logs has made my teensy little balcony garden seem a bit silly. This seems like a great community! I'm just bursting with questions which are probably all non-concerns- it's easy to get nervous when you only have eight babies and you can check on way too often. Can't wait to absorb some wisdom!

This is my garden (assuming I can figure out image posting!). The pot in the corner you can't see is a little Japanese Maple I picked up to keep them company.

Hello and Welcome!your plants look great.I'd love to see your Japanese maple....what type do you have?

I'm not 100% sure, I want to say an Atropurpureum variety based on the leaf shape but I'm hardly an arborist. My main goal is to not kill it between now and one day owning some land I can stick it in.

This is the day I got it a few weeks ago- I've since slip potted it up to 5gal so hopefully it stretches a bit this summer. My balcony faces west which isn't ideal but eh, what do you do.

Hi Hazel!  :welcome:  to the THP forums from SC!! Looks like your doing just fine and off to a great start! Love the coloration on that maple - one of my favorite trees! Best of luck with your grow.....and certainly try to resist to 'baby' the plants, more deaths are the result of this (I'm guilty) than most other causes.  ;)
