This plant seems to be far ahead of the other chinenses as far as its pods no longer being green. Not knowing for sure what the final color will be makes determining ripeness a little difficult. I guess when the podstems detach easily from the branch, it's time, no?

If those pods developed early in the plants life they could just be malformed. I had a few ghost peppers that looked like that early on
