Memorial Day (Two-Week) User-land BBQ Contest

There are no rules. It's a casual contest with a big prizes, and the winners will be determined by user polling over next weekend.

The prize box I'm providing will have items from:

Joyner's Hot Peppers
Texas Creek
Lucky Dog Hot Sauces
Dee Roo (SmokenFire)
Scotty O'Hotty
Pex Peppers
Walkerswood
Teeny Tiny Spice Co.
Meat Church
Defcon
Mild Bill's
Johnson Berry Farms
Zatarain's
Season With Spice

... so far.

I haven't poked around my Asian shelves, or the Cambro's of Modernist powders yet - but I'll be including stuff from there as well, if possible.

A prize box from JHP will be provided by Joyner's Hot Pepper Powders, thanks Chris.

A prize box from Texas Creek is forthcoming, TBD once we figure out how the voting will be organized. This prize can be donated to AnySoldier.

Just worked out a prize box from Lucky Dog Hot Sauce with Scott that will include the new Chipotle, a Dia Del Perro, and the Black label sauce (CONUS) (tctenten has sponsored this being available to an expat member if it ends up as such).

And also, a prize box from Pex Peppers that will include a pair of his sauces (CONUS).

* If you are a producer/vendor, or just looking to sponsor a prize box out of sheer benevolence, shoot me a PM and we'll get it in there ...

The more prizes the better, certainly.

Ribs are trimmed and off to smoker, two ways. Ribs on left are commercial rub and ones on right are my personal blend.

I love the 'backing onto forest backyards' you all seem to have in your shots.  If only my line of work allowed for regional living….

Me too.

We have sandy yards w/ St, Augustine crawling on-top, no seasons for the most part, and palm trees and palmetto bushes for primary coverage ...

Bah!

I am really going to enjoy this thread.  Good work GM.  I will try to bbq something sometime this week, today I have work.  I'll have to figure out when I can fit it in.  I have lots to choose from in the freezer.  Ribs, whole chicken, pork butt, beef roast, sausage, just have to make a decision and find the time.  This is going to be my last week before I start the new job and I have two appointments with them to finish up a bunch of paperwork and such.  In the meantime, I will be watching and drooling.

I just found out about this contest like an hour ago (thanks, JHP!). I figure I better throw my hat in the ring before I do something dumb like read the rules or something. I have lots of meat and beer and whiskey. That's all I need.
Pardon the double pic posts. I want to make this all as official as I can.

Too much meat.

I decided (last night) on using a Memphis dust rub (recipe from Amazing Ribs) for the butt. I may try something else on the ribs. I dry brined the butt last night and left it on the counter to come up to room temp.

Started the fire around 6 this morning and got things rockin'

And now all is right in the world.

Today's smoke will be hickory and we will be serving Boulevard Single-Wide and Ale Asylum Velveteen Habit for your beveraging pleasure. Jim Beam Black will be provided QRN.

Ok, I am getting close to deciding.  Ribs have been pulled from the freezer.  I am leaning toward tomorrow.  I will stop by the store after work and see if anything jumps out of the case at me to go with them or if I need to thaw something else out.  These prizes sound crazy good.  Gonna be great for whoever wins.  I got my money on JHP and Booma.  I'm just a hack with a little barrel smoker.
