Crotalaria longirostrata (chipilin)

A friend from El Salvador was kind enough to provide me with seeds for this variety known as Chipilin. Native to Central America, the seeds are difficult to find unless you know someone directly. There is not much info and I'm curious if anyone here knows about or had the privilege of growing this one out. My friend who gave me the seeds said it maybe possible to see them mature if planted quickly. So as a test run I went ahead and planted the seeds in my garden hoping they will germinate soon. If you ever see green stuff mixed in with tamale maza it is most likely Chipilin. I believe we have similar plants here in North America that are in the same family but are toxic and considered invasive.

Very cool find, the genus name makes me think of Crotalus which is a rattlesnake genus.  The leaves kind of look like milkweed
Ah yes my friends Crotalus! I thought the same thing when I read that. Very cool looking plant, hope you get some pods this year. With a name like that I will have to get my hands on some seeds. That is if your willing to do a little trading.  :D

Long break rattlebox is one of the common names of this plant. I imagine its because the plant rattles when shaken. Very cool thanks for mentioning that...

Trying these again this year. Last year I started late and the plants died before it could give me seeds. I ordered some seeds from especiesbelizetropicalseeds.com hopefully they are the real deal.
