Time to play...Name! That! Pepper!

Hello folks and welcome to another round of Name! That! Pepper!

I'm your host Screwy McScrewlose. Now...contestant number 1 is a short bushy little guy with white flowers, and small red ball like fruit. The seeds look like peppers seeds, but when the juice is tasted it is extremely sweet. Is this a pepper or should the person that sampled it call poison controll because he's eaten some poisinous berry?(j/k on the poison controll, I just sampled on my tounge a few days ago. Besides the horn that is growing out of my forehead, there have been no adverse effects...not that I usually put funny looking unknown fruits in my mouth)

I hate to break it to you, but it's a slow-acting poison.

You've got about 2 days left.

Have fun.

It's been good knowing you.

Seriously, the flower looks a lot like an african piquin.

How hot was it?

No heat what so ever, but then again, I only just dabbed it on my tongue so I night not have gotten any heat. But it was REALLY sweet.

I thought african piquins were more serrano like? These are rounds and the size of your average male's pinky nail.

Scroll up... you missed my second post. ;)

The interesting thing about this particular species of pepper is that they range in shape. If you had no heat, you had one of two things going on.

1. It's a poisonous plant and you really do only have two days to live.

2. It might not have been fully ripe yet, in which case, seriously, if you leave them on the plant... they may turn black/dark purple??? If so, you may not have a galaponese on your hands. But those are really rare.

My first thought is that it's a baccatum, because of the white flower, yellow stamen, but I don't see the spots.

Unfortunately, my chile bible is upstairs, so I can't exactly look it up.

Here. I found a dried one as well, dabbed the seed on my tongue...no heat at all. The seeds look exactly like pepper seeds...I mean dead on.

And... do you have a pic of the unopened flower and a close up of the leaf??

I'm still thinking it's a galapagonese but those are supposed to be very hot.

Don't have that and my camera's only like 3mp so a close up shot will look like poodo. No unopened flowers on the plant.

The flowers were not in clusters.

Well, unfortunately, I'm at a loss... Hopefully someone else will check in soon. Cause, I'm really only guessing. Truth be told, I found a galapagoense on chileman's new site and those leaves look fatter.

Well, thanks for the guess. :D

Think nothing of it, I love the mental exercise... One of these years, I won't simply be guessing. At some point, I figure, I'll be able to reconize the little beauties right off, anytime anyone asks.

That or they'll pop up immediately when I put the right info into db search. :D
