When is a Bhut ripe?

When is the best time to pick a Bhut? Is it as soon as it turns a dark orange. Or is it best to let it ripe on the plant a few days, or more?


This is my first year growing them.
 
How long can the peppers stay on the plant after turning to a dark orange/red?

Also, how can we store them after they are picked? How do you dry them? Can they just be chopped and frozen like bell peppers?
 
They can stay on plant till plant is still green or they turn all red what ever color is final stage or before first frost,you can store them by putting all think in zip-lock bags or you take seeds out & you dehydrate the seeds or put the seeds in paper plate to dry on air in the garage or in the house,if you like to be chopped it is fine with seeds or without.
