Almost lost my lone peter pepper plant

A friend of mine gave me several peter pepper pods earlier this year and wanted me to try to get some plants germinated. I planted them very heavily in 8 small pots (4 or 5 seeds per pot), but only managed to get 2 seeds to germinate, so figured that he gave me some bad seeds. I later found out that he actually had a couple of bags of dried pods (1 was a couple years old and the other was from last year) and told me that he thinks he gave me the old pods/seeds. Well, I have nurtured and cared for the two plants and now have them transplanted in the back yard with protective cage around both since I have 1 great dane and 1 great dane collie mix that are very curious and roam the fenced in back yard. I'm about to give up on the smaller plant, since to this day, it is only 2 to 3 inches tall, but the other is doing pretty good...about 2 feet tall (no flowers or pods yet). I needed to do a little weeding/cultivating around this one plant, so had to remove the cage from around it for a few minutes. I took my eyes off the plant for only a couple minutes and then noticed my great dane suddenly decided to do a little digging...right next to my plant...one more swipe from his big paw and he would of had all the roots completely exposed and the plant most likely destroyed. I caught him just in time and saved my poor plant. I now have re-arranged my protective caging around this plant and it seems to be holding off the onslaught. By the way, shouldn't I be getting a few flowers and pods off of this plant by now??? I'm gonna get the camera out and try to get a good pic of this peter pepper plant in the next day or so.

super i would not worry..i have neglected mine..bashed them about and treated them badly and amazingly the peter pepper plants have stood up (no pun intended) to lots of missue..post a pic and lets take a look :)

I'm growing the Peter Peppers of the red variety (thanks AJ) but the plant has taken ages to flower, I thought being an annuum it would be a little quicker.
