Have you tried Jigsaw peppers?

I've had the dried flakes that come in the tube.  I've eaten what someone told me was jigsaw and thought all the hype about how hot it is was off.  Just had a small bit of a pod I am cooking with right now to see how they grew.  Oh dear god.

Tiny little bit, so no hiccups or anything.  Very short lived but instant heat and that do not breath threw your mouth part.  I cant detect any taste cause it is just that hot.  Next pod, am going to cut out the placenta and seeds, rinse with cold water, and see what I can taste under the heat.

Jeff H, there are some folk who think it is the next hottest.  I tried them before, didnt think so.  Had the chopped up bits before, didnt think so.  Now this year, wondering if maybe it is still unstable and different offspring yield different heat levels dramatically because of it.

On the other hand, after our month of down pour we have had almost a month of dry.

I'm guessing for the most part once you go above a bhut the flavor goes out the window and the heat overpowers any detection of flavor except for the sadists who think they are not that hot lol.

i tried them last fall , and picked my first 2 last week , indeed they are hot . i think the cbbg7 ranks right with it . but like red savina said once over the bhut threshold it gets hard for me to determine . !       :onfire:

Jigsaw -- I'm assuming this is the same as the 'Fatalii Gourmet' Jigsaw...yes? Would love to comment, but it's still on my 'wishlist'! Can't wait to hear your review ajdrew.

The de-seed/placenta removal/cold water rinse does indeed work (have done it myself), but I've also found that a bit of nuking in the microwave with some water (up to 1min.) can reduce a bit of heat, but still maintain full flavor for assessing the flavor profile.   ;)

They are very hot, but they don't rival the Reaper.

You know, you don't have to eat that whole pepper and have drool and tears streaming down your face as you fight back the urge to puke just to get the flavor profile. I first test all different peppers with just a sliver. You still get the intense heat, but not as much of it so you can taste the flavor coming through. There really are pretty significant flavor differences between Brainstrains, Butch T, bhuts, Reapers, Jigsaw, (insert next hottest here).

Hey JeffH, I saw this post title and immediately flashed back to last year's visit to your pepper patch and my first taste of a FGJigsaw.
No doubt it was hot, but I got all kinds of flavor out of it. So much so that I decided to grow it myself this season
---> Note I do not consider myself immume to the heat of Superhot and do not routinely eat entire pods. <--- I thought the Jigsaw's heat went like this: JeffH gave me a fingernail sized piece, I popped it in, chewed it all up. As I was chewing it I got all kinds of flavor before swallowing. Now, as I was chewing I also felt that "get ready it's gonna get hot here shortly!" sensation. I thought the heat came on very much like Reapers do for me.
Anyway, I liked the Jigsaw. I'm hoping I get home from vacation to find a lot of ripe pods waiting!

Yes, I agree Bryant. There is all kinds of flavor out of the Jigsaw. Good tasting pod. And hot too. :D

yes thats what I do now with peppers is just eat the tip/end of the pepper to get an idea of the flavor and heat.

They are not even in the top 10 for heat in my garden.
This year I wimped out lol. My hottest peppers being a butch t and choc scorpion followed by 3 bhuts, fatalis, datils, caribbean reds and down from there on the old scoville. Next year I plant to have a few more in the butch t range or hotter.

I got my seeds from Europe when they first became available for US shipping. Since they were supposed to beat the record, or be close, I always compare peppers to others. The heat was close, but not as hot as red brain strains. Brains have a more long lasting burn where the jigsaws backed off a few minutes earlier. They were about equal to the red lava that Judy had sent me to try. Taste was nothing impressive, but not bad. It's hard to explain, but to me the 7 pot Jonah had a nice red 7 pot taste, but was very bland, just nothing special. Red brain strains have a special taste. Anyway, Jigsaws tasted very plain for me. In the same way, to me, reapers are somewhat plain tasting, where Primos have a really nice special taste, and mine taste about 10% hotter than the reapers. I still have a few jigsaw plants sitting around. It's funny, Fatalii sold seeds with the stipulation that nothing could be sold that came from those seeds, but seeds and plants were really made available for sale months afterwards. That is why I never sold my plants. Anyone who comes out to buy other plants can have one for a present though.

One of mine last year tasted of tart cherries. It was delicious. Heat wise, not a record breaker.
Growing out seeds from the cherry flavored one, but no pod yet.
