i have sleep issues that aren't quite as bad ...
for one thing, i have a cpap, so when i do get sleep, it's really high quality in the restorative sense ...
i totally get manic-y doing long day's of work for my work, sometimes, but the best advice anyone ever gave me was to stop worrying about it and let it take it's course ...
you'll get tired eventually, especially if you keep doing shit when it's not happening ...
some people need to do a lot of work, or accomplish a lot of things before their mind gets exhausted ...

i try to maximize the the sleep when it comes ... a little 25 mg benedryl will do wonders to extend some sleep longer by an hour or two, and is as close to harmless as it gets ...
reading with one eye or the wrong prescription is a sure fire recipe for dozing off ... and reading in low light can shave even more time off it ...
i like hypnosis recording in dire straits ... they are just effectively outsourcing the backwards counting to a recording, and put you down similarly ...
last resort is to sleep polyphasic for a while just until it frustrates you enough (or your partner?) that you "go back" to normal hours ... which also works, just for the sheer change-up factor ...
most importantly though, is remembering that worrying about sleep you aren't getting is 10x worse than just not getting sleep ...
not getting literal sleep is rough on some hornome shit and on the organs, but those precursor things aren't as bad as the straight cortisol that comes with outright worrying about it ...
i know the sleep is coming, sometimes i just don't know when it's coming ... the best thing to do is just keep accomplishing tasks, which i find satisfying, and ultimately puts my mind at ease ... at least, eventually.
