SFRB - $10.00 - One day only - Aug. 21st

The price includes shipping, so you know I am doing this more for fun than anything else.  This Friday I turn 50 years old.  So on Thursday at Midnight I am going to post 50 flat rate boxes of mixed fresh peppers for $10.00 a box.  I doubt I will sell all 50 in 24 hours, but it will be fun to try.  Weather permitting, the plan is to pick, pack, and ship by day and then drink something with coconut by night.

Here is the link, but it will show Out of Stock until Midnight on Thursday night, Aug. 20th then will be available and in stock till either they run out or until Midnight on Friday night, Aug. 21st.

Ye, I know I am nutty.  Just seems like a fun idea.

TrueNorth, gonna share something but first gotta explain how it is not bragging about sales.  At $16.00 a box with shipping included, I doubt I reach minimum wage on most days.  At $10.00 a box, I don't think I am making a thing when you consider cost of product let alone labor.  Its not a money bragging thing, it is an I can do this bragging thing.

That said, my busiest day this year (since the foot thing) has been 20 boxes.  I have from sun up till about 3:30 PM to get them ready to the post office or from sun up till about noon for the letter carrier to pick them up.  On that 20 box day, when I put the last label on I threw my arms up in the air and screamed DONE.  Wife then took the box of boxes and went to the post office cause I was to the point of not being able to stand.

Plan for the birthday sale is to cheat.  Normally I try to ship next AM.  On the birthday sale, I am going to ship that day and the next.  Since I know I can hit 20 boxes in a day, I am fairly sure I can hit 50 in two days.  But just in case, I also added that I might not ship till Monday on the sales page.  So I get to see what I can do but not at the risk of urking patrons.

That and if I do sell a bunch, after going to the post office I am going to buy something with coconut in it.  Plan is to buy mix and rum separate so my kids can have virgin coconut something or another.  Not even sure what the drink is called, just that it has coconut and I am so gonna buy one of those silly straws... maybe umbrella.  Hell, I might buy coconuts, cut them in half, and pretend I am on the Island.

Grant, not sure.  Probably, but Id kind of like something with lime.  Odd thing that song, cant find a drink with coconut and lime.

If you sold some mfrboxes, wouldn't that count as 7 boxes each and make or easier to do, or do you really just want to see if you can sell and pack 50 small boxes? Tom

cycadjungle, its the number 50 that is really floating my goat.  Also, if I am blessed with 50 boxes sold by the time I wake up, the challenge of getting all 50 picked, packed and shipped before I run out of time.  I dont really think I will sell that many and I dont really think I'd get it done that day even if I do, but it is a really fun idea based on the birthday.  If I do at all well, thinking I will do 51 next year and so on.

But thinking on it:  If I remember right, six SFRB (actual box) fits into one medium.  When you say 7, is that because without the actual cardboard boxes there is more room?  If someone orders six, I imagine I would try and save some on the shipping and actually make some scratch.  Do you think it should be a seperate item that goes for less than 10.00 x 6 and if so how much less.  Hmmmm, the number 50 could be right there again.

I mentioned 7 because it works out that when they are loose in the box, you can fit about 7 boxes worth, like you mentioned.
I guess I should start to say that $10 is a great, low price. I'm not suggesting anything but just for example, I don't know how much you pay for shipping, the $5.95 at the PO or the $5.15 off the USPS website, but if you are paying $5.95, than that means you are only making $4.05 a box. If you wanted to make the same amount, but make the job easier, and same the buyer money, you could do mediums for $40-$41 and you might get some people mol, buying 7 boxes at a time and you would only have to fill 7+ boxes to meet the goal, pepper wise. It's not the same though, you are trying for 50 regular boxes, just because your birthday, and it isn't the same. Picking and shipping 50 boxes by yourself is a difficult task. Great thing to shoot for though. Tom

Ye, I havent advanced to printing my own postage yet so I pay $5.95 and had no idea it was that much cheaper to buy it online.  Going to look into it, thank you.  I am leaning towards putting up a thing that says if you buy 5 boxes, I throw another one in for free.  I -think- that six boxes will fit inside the medium flat rate box.  Have to try it out.  Anyway, that way I could still count boxes and watch the inventory change as people buy them.  So the trying for 50 boxes remains simple and straight forward.

If it goes over, hope to do something similiar every year but with a different mixed drink.  Always a funny straw, but a different drink every year.

Re: how many small boxes fit into a medium.

Judy at PepperLover said, "the MFRB can hold 6 SFRB if u line them up inside, if you take the boxes out and just dump the pods of each box u can fit 8 of the small in the medium one"

So filling a medium box might be easier and more profitable for AJ's birthday offer.  (and a good deal for me, too) :P

Oh yea, I forgot:

You can also print labels on the PayPal site, as long as people pay you for goods and services. It almost pays for the fee they charge.

Happy early birthday ajdrew!!  I am setting an alarm so that I won't miss the sale.  :)

Sounds like a good idea -- One more thing to consider - anytime anyone orders 3 or more packing them in a MFRB will save you on shipping -- figure @5.95 for the small and $12.65 for the medium you can make some extra profit by shipping 3 4 5 or 6 in a medium rather than separate smalls and it adds up quickly

3 smalls at $5.95 would be $17.85 vs. $12.65 = $5.20 extra profit just for putting the 3 in a larger box !!
4 is $23.80 vs $12.65 = $11.15 extra profit
5 is $29.75 vs $12.65 = $17.10 extra
6 is $35.70 vs $12.65 = $23.05 extra

Not to mention the saving in time printing 3,4,5, or 6 sets of labels and the USPS processing time.

EDIT : Oh and almost forgot Happy Birthday !!

Ya know, I had not thought about that and have shipped three boxes to one person on multiple occasions.  Thank you, but kind of wondering why I had not thought about it.  I think I just figured the post office was pricing based on volume, seems not.

Figure better for you to make the extra little bit than give it to the USPS !!

Lol, hey Bub. I knew you were kinda allright. My birthday is Friday as well, I'm turning 47. I may just celebrate by buying some of your pods.
You're just south of me in KY, correct? Growing those Bluegrass pods!
You mentioned a coconut drink. I used to spend a lot of time down in St.John, USVI. The best island drink ever came out of Jost Van Dyke's The Soggy Dollar Bar - The Painkiller. Very easy to make and my 3 boys love the virgin version sans rum.
Painkiller recipe: 4 parts pineapple, 1 part cream of coconut, 1 part orange juice, 1-4 parts Pusser's Rum. Served over ice with fresh ground nutmeg sprinkled over top. Way better than a Piña Colada. You can sub Cruzan Rum for Pusser's, but Pusser's is worth the search.

Even cheaper than putting three SFRBs in a MFRB is just cramming the small boxes into a Priority Mail envelope. I think they only cost $10.50 - even cheaper than a MFRB. I was waiting in line to ship an armload of boxes and saw the envelopes. Figured I'd give it a shot. It worked and I never even lost my spot in line!
I bet you could even fit four SBRBs in an envelope with a little elbow grease and swearing.

Brutaldiver, well happy birthday YOUNGSTER.  There is something about birthdays that end with a zero.  Makes you think you are all wise or something.  I used to live in Columbus, OH and work at the Kentucky Renaissance Festival.  So every weekend for most of the summer I would drive right threw your city.  I tried not to stop, but I did very much love the way the city sort of weaves in and out of the hills.  My mailing address is Waddy, but I think I am closer to Shelbyville.  You are about two hours away.

Drink sounds good, but I am thinking it is far too complicated.  I am pulling towards those just add alcohol mixer things.

Hybrid Mode - Are you saying three boxes fit into that envelope just fine?
