10 x 10 maximum yield

I love reading about Israeli efforts at food production and the things they do in the settlements. But most of their efforts still have a focus on centralized production.  I am more interested in small concentrated and diverse production which can cause a more independent and resilient culture to emerge. So for conversation and maybe more, I wanna set some conditions for a theoretical garden and let folk run with it to see what they can come up with.

Size: 10 foot cubed.  Ten foot by ten foot that is no taller tan ten foot.  If you have seen the white easy up tents at arts and craft show, that is about what the size would look like.

Minimum Water consumption.  No electricity other than what is produced in the

Can be open, enclosed, or combination.

Soil, hydroponics, aquaponics are all OK but nothing tremendously high tech for timers / pumps.

Think of something you could put in a person's back yard that would go a long way to feed their family.  What would it look like, how would it work, what would it grow?  Poultry, fish, anything that fits is fine preferably things with other uses: fish is food and fertalizer, chicken is body heat and composting heat, and so on.  Like that.

Your thoughts?

Aquaponics has been catching on, allot of people are putting them in their backyard to grow fish, also the water is cleaned by using it as fertilizer for plants, so the water circulates over a tray that feeds the plants that clean the water as it arieates. Someone in England took over a store and loaded the walls with trophs and the fish tank (Talapia I think) supplies the herb garden with the nutrients :)

I know this doesnt fit your parameter for space but this is what Id want to do with just a little land.

Have seen and love that video.  It is very similiar to what we strive for but no where near as dense or well kept.  I was asking about the 10 cube because I figure even a lot of city folk have a patio.  Have a friend teaching bee keeping in Africa at the moment.  She got me back to thinking on what I could do, what other gardeners could do, to do to address all the nasty famine that the UN and World Bank say is going to continue to grow for decades.

So got to wondering about a system, not something prefab, but something small that could be build with common materials.  Not sure why I went with ten by ten, just seemed right there.
