Mystery - Grown from seeds grown in a contest..

Hey folks,

Although many of the labels for the plants I've grown this year have faded, I kept a detailed list of what I've grown so I can deduce what each of them are... Except this one. This plant is around two years old at this point and didn't produce any pods at all last year. I got the seeds from another member of the forum (perhaps Gotrox? I can't remember) in a contest - an envelope that had an unsorted mix of seeds of all the varieties the person had grown that season.

And therein lies the trouble - I don't particularly remember exactly who the seeds came from (and the messages here on THP got deleted somewhere along the way) and I didn't make a copy of the list of their varieties (which included at least 30 or so that were listed in their profile at the time).

I haven't tried one of the pods, but I do know they have a smell very much like a Naga Jolokia, but the shapes of the pods are telling that it's something else. Some of the pods are long like a Ghost, but much deeper grooves. Some other pods on the plant have similar grooves but more stumpy and rounded.

Any thoughts on what variety this might be?

I just looked up some photos of those and that may well be one good possibility.

Do they smell/taste anything like Naga/Bhut? I might have to get up the nerve to try one of these at some point to try and get a feel for the heat level.

I admittedly have the same trouble most of the time, but I like to think my nose is slowly learning over time. I find the Habanero varieties I've grown (Red, typical orange and Black Congo) all smell/taste more sour/bitter than the other Chinense varieties I've tried. Typical Bhuts/Nagas are sweeter, but to me they leave an aftertaste. Reapers smell the most sweet to me. The Brain Strain Yellow fits what people refer to as "floral" I think. And so far I like the smell/taste of Douglah & Brown Naglah the most. PepperLover's "Devil's Brain" seems less sweet than a Reaper, but like a steroid-infused version of a Ghost in terms of heat and taste.... Those are my impressions, at least.

Yes they do have some difference but I couldn't tell a pepper from the smell

I love the 7 pot smell!

Those yellow 7 pot are my favorite.
Smell good, taste good, super heat, good size, good amount of pods on a plant, still can grow in canada

We had some snow hit out of nowhere the other day (no frost warning or anything) that wiped out all my plants that were outside that weren't in the greenhouse, but it turns it out the cold didn't just affect them. Since then I've been working on taking a few plants each day out of the greenhouse and into the house. I still have to figure out how to arrange them all and I have to trim many of them because the chill killed lots of branches & leaves on a number of them.

All that to say that along the way I realized that this isn't my "mystery" plant at all. At this point I'm fairly certain that it is my 007 Red from Buckeye Peppers because I found the plant that I'm certain is the "mystery" one. I'll have to try and get some photos of the few pods on that one. Some of them have a shape akin to a Trinidad Scorpion, but I haven't picked any off the plant yet to smell or try them.
