Herbs

The list continues to grow for this season

2 types of Bay Laurel
2 Types of oregano
sage
summer savory
basil
thyme
parsley
rosemary
lavender
cilantro
garlic
onion
chives
shallots
lemon thyme
chocolate mint
lemon grass

What herbs are you growing ?

I'm sure teh dill and mint are coming back on their own, same with the chives, onion, garlic, green onion and leeks. My Sage came back last year so will probably come back this year. Will probably need to replant basil, maybe oregano

Dill's an annual...it may re-seed... but it's usually best sown every year.

On a personal note, one of my absolute favorite herbs is lemon verbena (not lemon balm), which is almost-hardy here (USDA climate zone 8a, arguably)... needs heavy mulch or other protection to survive, but has the sweetest lemon taste in iced tea you've ever tasted

It reseeds itself. I have a hard time just keepign it contained
I find it fascinating how plants will behave in different climates... dill seeds simply will not survive our winters... yet rosemary, bay laurel, and greek "rigani" oregano overwinter nicely here.

Yeah, basil plants are much like chile plants - let them get too cold and they die.

This year's herb grow included:

Rosemary (still going)
Woolly Thyme
Tarragon
Golden Oregano
Green Onion
Purple Basil

All grown in pots. I grew cilantro last year, but will never do that again. They were a total aphid magnet. One could argue that they kept the aphids away from the chile plants, especially since I kept them separate, but who wants massive amounts of aphids anywhere???

thanks for the head up on the cilantro, I'll isolate them in a different area of the garden.

Herbs planted so far this year:

Greek oregano
Hot & spicy oregano
Sweet basil
Globe basil
Thyme
Lemon Balm
Mint
Pineapple mint
Lavender
Cilantro
Parsley
Rosemary

Still waiting on:
Dill
Sage
Savory
Tarragon
Patchouli
Chives
And if I can find it again, nasturtium... nice, spicy radish flavored leaves and flowers

Tarragon is a spice I would like to add to my garden as well.
French tarragon is quite nice.. some seed merchants offer seed -- which should be avoided... Tarragon from seed is actually known in the spice trade as 'Russian tarragon', with inferior flavor when compared to French tarragon.

French tarragon doesn't breed true from seed. Buying live plants is your best choice.

If you can find it grow lemon and lime thyme
Hehhh.. if i were a poet, i might make an ode to fragrance titled "Lime Thyme Rhyme Time"...

...but it's probably just as well...

...on a serious note: i've never heard of lime thyme. What do you use it for ? Are it's essential oils as volatile as other thymes ? Anything you find worth mentioning is of interest to me.

Thanks
