No specific theme this year, as although I enjoyed sourcing and growing Fataliis last season I did find this a little limiting for other things I wanted to grow.  So this year I return to my usual eclectic mix of old favourites and new varieties I'm itching to try!

Current list updated 16/01:
f48fb28747e42baa0b5405f140f13002.jpg

I’ve decided to go heavy on c.baccatum this season, I just can’t get enough of the beautiful flavours and mid-range heat.

I’ve also been careful to limit my super hots and generally turned down the SHU wick a bit this year too, as to be honest I only have limited use for the face melters.

I’m growing out my own Lemon Drop x Aji White Fantasy cross… can’t wait to see what Lemon Drop Fantasy will bring and very excited about this, hoping for something special.

The mysterious and uniquely shaped Death Cap hybrid will also make an appearance, will the F2 yield the same blistering heat and pod shape?  On the subject of hybrids, I'm the lucky recipient (thanks John!) of the Madame Jeanette x Goronong cross all the way from Holland.

So far I've had great germination rates including my Lemon Drop Fantasy crosses which are flying, I'm going to have to pot them up soon and cull a few as had multiple loops in each pellet...

Meanwhile, my overwinters doing very nicely, TS CARDI veteran looking positively perky after hard cutback root and branch for the 5th time (Year 5)!

Hope 2016 is a decent year weather wise here in the UK!  Good luck for a great season all.

Cheers,

Dennish

That Cardi scorp looks awesome.  I love how the base of the plant turns into a big ole' tree trunk.  I feel like 2016 will be a decent year.  Best of luck.

Thanks! His trunk gets fatter and more gnarly with every year and even makes a beautiful houseplant at this time of year too, helps me camouflage it from the wife :-)

Cheers Sirex! Just pleased it's looking like I'll get another season out of the old boy.

In my opinion you can't go wrong with Scotch Bonnet varieties & there hybrids along with baccatum varieties
You got a great list there Dennish

Cheers for the comments Plantguy, couldn't agree with you more!

I grew SB Foodarama last season and loved them, I tried and failed (somehow - mystery disease struck) with SB MOA when the seed first broke a few seasons back so really looking forward to trying with these again.  I always try and have at least one bonnet type incorporated into my grow...

SBJ7 come highly recommended from our mutual friend John/Trident, another I'm really looking forward to.

And as you can see above can't get enough c.baccatum!

Lemon Drop Fantasy crosses continue to do well, growing quickly into healthy young plants...

Quick update from me...

Looking pretty crowded now under the Growlight Garden, should have started a month later like I said I was going to do!  On sunny days I have now started to put the plants on the windowsill in the daytime.

Baccas on the left and chinenses on the right...

Chinenses getting nice big deep leaves

Death Cap in particular looking beastly

Lemon Drop Fantasy crosses growing well, will be picking the strongest cross and backcross for potting up soon.  As you would expect the plants look pretty identical at F1.

The odd couple... Orange Blob on the left, looking more annuum than chinense at this stage.  Rocoto Montufar on the right looking hairy

Overwinters doing well… Quick snap of the venerable 5 year old TS CARDI, bristling with promise for the season ahead!

With you on that front Dennis ... larger plants moved out of the grow tent onto the dining room table which has the little lady all in a strop ... largest south facing area I can find this happens every year so she must be used to it ..... this means I can get more juveniles in the tents .... roll on Spring my friend

PS saved you a MoA Red if you still need one

It has begun.  Can you feel the crackling of magic compost in  the air?  The Pottoning!  A bit like The Quickening in 80's classic 'The Highlander', but with a compost scoop instead of a sword.

"There can BE ONLY one."  Um... actually, no love... there are about 30 of them, don't worry they will be in the greenhouse before you know it...

 (sorry, I know I use this 'joke' each year, but it makes me laugh)

4ae5705dfbd7c58339f002038709a081.jpg
(check out the giant box in the background Amazon sent this in, complete with those giant air-bubble wrap things, what a massive waste of time and resources)

So last night I took the plunge and potted up the majority of my chinenses plants, all straining at the leash and becoming potbound in their 9cm pots after mid-January start.  Now potted-up into 1l pots with Terra Canna Professional soil mix
b1296a0fe79dee1e81fcecccad4deae0.jpg

Note to self when reading this back: don't plant till mid-Feb next season, you fool!

So here they are in groups as a record of progress at this stage.

e0938734645f980e5772a1900f6a82d0.jpg

And here is a shot of them on the windowsill, my wife is less than happy!  I'll take a similar pic in a week or so to show you how quickly they kick-on from here.

530b754fc8857a61d8402c4a57f65258.jpg

938f29896b3d5b14bd7bd1c84f8d2aac.jpg

You can see my two bacca crosses on the ends, I've now whittled these to just one plant of each type.  I have to be ruthless with space at this stage in the game.

EDIT: Just noticed the pooling water in the garden on the last photo, rain coming down in stair rods here and the ground is totally saturated - my lawn is like a bog.

Women like flowers so stick some plastic roses or plastic geraniums in every other pot...She will love them then..

Been there...Done that.

So quick update from me... things zipping along, general space headache indoors and too many plants for the final positions available - nothing new there then!

Windowsill chinenses doing really well, will be another month or so before I consider moving them outside to the GH.  I really should have started a month later.
036dd5bbfd2fb0bd6ba5a0acfc5c5731.jpg

Some highlights...

Fatalii x Cleo's Dragon Yellow, very strong growth.
c3512cd64f8f8491327b76e945c7581b.jpg

Scotch Bonnet MOA, fingers crossed this year!
a41394105db6b5259b8d49a1645df2d0.jpg

Orange Blob - definitely more than a hint of pubescens on the leaves and stems now.
800a13e88e51bf6a876de521f01abde8.jpg
e316ef7d81237b8dd5b7c2f9f19c5c8d.jpg

Peach Congo
e6263fe0fca336c09cda0e3d392e45ac.jpg

And here are the rest, a mixed bag of annumms, baccatum and a few chinenses.  I'm resisting potting on for now due to space limitations.
33a86e073691c42b6c820edbbfb9cf93.jpg

Also exciting news with my crosses which are bursting out of their 1l pots.  Lemon Drop Fantasy F1 is 1m tall and setting it's first pod despite the limited pot size, hopefully I'll get a glimpse of what is to come before deciding how much time/space/energy to put into these plants.

Also, Mexican Sour Gherkin hiding amongst the chillies...
