Sawyer '16 - Memorial Day update

Okay, time to get started.  Last year was not such a good pepper-growing year for me, but it was great in terms of getting a pepper condiment business off the ground.  My only two resolutions for 2016 are to keep better condiment production records and follow through on growing large quantities of peppers.  To that end, here's the list of varieties I have.  I won't grow everything on the list, but plan to grow most of these.  Some will only be a plant or two (for fresh seed production), some will be many, many more (for sauces and/or plant sales).  The ones marked with a leading (x), I'm out of stock, but am keeping them in the list to remind me I need to replace them (by trade mayhap, hint, hint).  Others, I think my stock is no good, either due to age or pantry moth infestation.  For the most part, those will be the first I start.  I tried to format this in multiple columns, but couldn't figure out how, so without further ado, here's the list:

The first ones I start will probably be Datil, Giant Mexican Rocoto, and whatever other seeds I have of suspect viability.
(*I've decided to switch camps from the 7 Pot crowd to the 7 Pod crowd.  If CARDI calls them "Seven Pod", who am I to say differently.  Here's a link to a pdf of their 2008 variety catalog.  I really like the 7 Pot origin story, i.e., hot enough for 7 pots of stew, but whatever.  As for "pod" vs. "berry", likewise, whatever.  A tomato is a botanical berry but also a culinary vegetable.  I would like to know the origin story of "seven pod", though.  Maybe it's due to seven peppers per node or something.  I think I've seen as many as eleven per node on my 7P Peach.)

Great list just ordered the Cardi Moruga Red Scotch Bonnet form Juanitos :high:
My theory is that so many generations ago the Moruga Red Scotch Bonnet crossed with the Yellow Moa & it came out in the yellow moa years later as my over winter closely matches the red mourga sb pics ;)
I will be following your glog & looking over your lists the Banana Bhut is one that comes to mind :fireball:
All the best for you this season & for your pepper condiment business    :hotsauce:  :mouthonfire:

Thank you on all points.  Interesting theory on the Moruga Red SB.  I'm not really familiar with that one; how is the flavor?  Yes, I'm really hoping the banana bhut grows true.  I've got my own original seed and some next-gen seed from Hillbilly Jeff that he said did have the banana fragrance.

I am lucky to have your Arkansas Peach which I believe I am possibly the only one in the UK to be growing this variety .... looking forward to following your glog ... nice list all the very best for this forthcoming season
That's awesome, Trident!  Did it grow true to type?  For some who have grown it, it reverted to a red color.  I think Pulpiteer had some that grew true.  It's ultimately derived from the Carolina Reaper, so it should be warm, too.

Thanks, Justin.  Doing a better job on growing this year is my resolution for 2016.  Well, that, and keeping better records for sauce production.

Best of luck, What size of a growing area are you working with?
Thank you.  My main garden space is 50'x100', but that has to accommodate all the regular garden stuff I grow as well as the peppers.  (Plus I have some bamboo encroaching on one end.)  I'm going to have nearly as many plants in containers as in the ground, though, and I have plenty of space for those.

You must have some nice property with a list and qty you got. Impressive!
Thanks!  I have less than 2 acres w/ multiple buildings, but it's plenty to keep me busy.  In addition to the 50'x100' space noted above I'm considering tilling up my front yard and turning it into a garden.  I can probably get another 35'x50' space there between the house and the apple trees.  There's a bigger space on the SW corner of the place, but it's really rocky, so that's where I'll be putting a lot containers.

If you like spiders, you should check out this post in my 2013 glog.  I think it was identified as a wolf spider.
