stupid long shot, but i want to grow some of these mini commercial triploid watermelon cultivars.
 
problem is im a small scale hobby schmuck, and this website is geared towards mighty commercial growers, captains of agriculture with capital i cannot begin to approach.

if just 3 or 4 people who share my interest in growing these diminutive melons we can make this happen.
 
triploid melon require diploid pollinators, keep this in mind... in the laughably off chance that this happens, id like to suggest the minipol cultivar... its a harvestable diploid type, so it provides pollen, whilst also producing acceptable(although seeded) tasting, and small enough melons.
 
why do i want to grow tiny little gaylord melons? because yo can grow them on a trellis or wire with a modicum of space.  the minipol cultivar is the only harvestable cultivar that produces melons small enough to easily go vertical.
 
these will be TREATED SEEDS. treated with CHEMICALS!!!. SHIT!!!@!

i do not know what the treatment is exactly, but these are commercial seeds, the treatment is probably a fungicide owing to melons general affinity towards being raped by various fungi.  so its probably thiram + a colorant + a lubricant for floability inside seeding machines.
 
its possible the treatment is just a priming chemical, steam or potassium nitrate, but no its probably a fungicide.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
have you tried emailing them?
say you are a perspective client but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on the order before you are sure they are any good (or whatever business sounding excuse you can come up with). Then ask for a small sample and can offer to pay if that helps. This should be understandable enough if they aren't complete dicks.
 
This has worked for me on a couple occasions. 
 
actually i just told them i was a pathetic hobbiest lolol. i guess i should have lied.

im an honest gentlemen though. lies are for poor people.

I have a shitload of oryzalin leftover from my polyploidy experiments. I could get you fertile hexaploids from a triploid one of these. The only problem is getting the seeds in the first place.
 
lol is that the chemical they use to produce polyploids? how does that work? do you have to apply it to a cell culture or seed embryo or what?

It's one chemical that produces polyploids. The other is easier but more toxic. It works when you apply it in diluted form to either a whole seed or cell culture as long as the plant absorbs it.
 
woo. got my seeds finally.
 
no watermelon fluit blotch disease waiver was signed.
 
i have quite a few more than i can use... id gladly sell some at cost + postage or what ever. 
+ 1% profit!!!
 
again though, treated seeds.
leopard and ace1(pollinator) are just thiram treated.
extazy is thiram, captan, AND delsene AND hot water treated. lol.
