You can select multiple but please select what you would most like to see. I'm just getting a feel for some areas that could be expanded upon. A database could feature things like alphabetical indexing, search, member reviews as wells as non-review comments (two tabs), pictures, etc. Each database can have its own categories, etc.

1. Pepper database. A database of pepper varieties with detailed information, SHU, pics, etc.

2. Recipe database. A database of some of the best recipes by members here categorized by foods type etc. This one particularly interests me. One place to view all the great stuff with pictures and exact measurements, steps, and you can review them, etc.

3. Hot sauce (products) database. A database of commercial hot sauces and products that you can review. Mainstream and boutique.

4. Vendor database. This would be for reviewing the vendor and not the product. It would consist of member companies as well as non-member companies, website info, addresses if applicable, etc.

5. Restaurant database. A database of restaurants with spicy foods fit for chiliheads with maps, reviews, etc.

Some of these databases can have editors that are trusted members to add or edit information. There can also be user submissions that would need approval.

All of these would take a lot of work and constant maintenance so I am wondering what interests you? For me, restaurants not so much, hot sauces, a lot of upkeep and often the smaller manufacturers don't last. Peppers, a lot of upkeep but would be a great resource. Recipes would be a nice interactive/social database for THP. Vendor database could be good. A lot of work so looking for the top ones for you and we'll see how the poll goes!

Thanks for your input!

The more I think about this the more I can't decide.

I want a pepper database, because...DUH PEPPERZ

I want a vendor database because it is hard enough to find reputable dealers for anything now-a-days.

I want a product database because I believe it would help with finding products etc.

and of course I want to know how to make better stuff via recipes.

Decisions decisions.

When to worry:  Can you fix it? If yes, You can fix it. So stop worrying.  If you can't fix it?  There is nothing you can do. So stop worrying.

1, 2 and 3 would be welcome to me.  The rest would be bonus.  If I have to vote for just one it would be the pepper database.

hmmm... how about all of them? have a database thats searchable for recipes that vendors put out, then have member recipes by pepper, hot sauce, etc. have those hot sauces linked to what peppers they use. but i realize that would all be pretty complicated.

There is some linking possibilities but more than likely it would start with one db, and grow from there, so looking to prioritize, so the votes will help.

Since there will be a lot of work setting these up, why not start with the most popular one or two and then add others later. This would keep the workload more manageable.

I'll add two - bug ID and plant problem ID.

For bugs, include pics and rating as far as beneficial or plant destroyer.  But make sure multiple pics and ID are allowed, such as one or more each at development stages, egg, larvae, adult, etc.

Ditto with plant problems - most websites only have pics of plants/pods at the extreme end game. It would be helpful to be able to ID a problem in its earlier stages, so as to hopefully prevent things from getting to the extreme point. Not only that, but an option to include known remedies that actually work. I would want this to include problems that are not just insects, such as fungus/mold/bacteria/virus, etc. Think of BER - in early stages the pods have weak, watery-appearing walls, but not the dark brown/black sunken areas that pods have when BER is advanced. Most sites only have pics of pods with the dark, sunken areas showing.

In my mind there may be insects in both databases, since some insects leave readily-identifiable types of plant damage (like leaf miners.)

That's a bit more granular than I am thinking (and too involved) and better suited as forum categories. I do have some plans there too so thanks.

A rating system for the database entries - stars or whatever and a comments on topic section underneath would be helpful too for separating out the sous vide from the poo vide.
