Peppers database would be great cause informations on varieties are mixed in the hot pepper talk section. I think the forum is already ok with the spicy food and the vendor vault sections

It's pretty much shaping up the way I would expect it would. I have witnessed multiple conversations about a pepper database (1) and for me personally, the recipe database (2). I have spent hours trying to dig up that one thing I saw "a year and a half ago, that I don't remember who made it, or what forum it was in".

(3 & 4) Venders and hot sauce will probably always be advertised because they should keep their product out front. Like GEICO.

Plus, alot of vendors change their product line over time until they settle in to something that works for them. As they should!

(5) Restaurant database? On a Global forum? neh~

Except Dick's in Seattle. Definitely put that in there.

Great thing here Boss!!!

I selected the Pepper database and the recipe database. I think this is the premier hot pepper website and we are aware of or on the cutting edge of many newly developed or discovered varieties. Let's continue to lead this show ;)

Secondarily, I think having a recipe database would be awesome and also drive more traffic to this website...

My two cents...

Definitely peppers and recipes!  Once these are set up, they shouldn't take a whole lot of time to keep updated.

We already have a section for commenting on vendors, that should suffice for positive and negative reviews.  Vendors come and go, and evolve over time also.  Same is true for products.  A products database would take a lot of time to keep current, and products/makers are in and out of the business so fast, it would be really hard to make sure all the products listed are actually available.  We do have the Reviews section, that should help people find products or comments on a product they are interested in.

The caveate might be a SHU list of well established sauces, extracts, Pure Evil, Etc.  But, Scott Roberts already has a pretty good sort-able list of hot products.  His list also has chiles, is sortable for one or the other, but I know the SR peppers list is far from inclusive of a LOT of chiles.  WIth all the Chile-Growing pros around here, we could probably put together one of the most extensive pepper databases on the www.

No interest in restaurants~  enough food sites devoted to that

lemme know if you need help with the (non-pepper growing) stuff.

We already have a section for commenting on vendors, that should suffice for positive and negative reviews.

Vendor Vault is actually pretty disorganized, if using a database for example, you would have the official vendor info at the top, and a two-tabbed system underneath with reviews with stars, and a tab for leaving comments w/o reviewing. It would work really nicely for vendor info.

lemme know if you need help with the (non-pepper growing) stuff.

Thanks!

OK, I can see where a database would be better than just random listings in a thread.

Dude what a good freaking idea!

I love the first two suggestions; the pepper data base as I often hear of some pepper I am having to google, and the second is recipes because I like cooking with my peppers and sorting through our recipe section isn't the easiest when you are looking for something. So yeah, agree with SL on this we have a good simple vendor section and restaurants are easy enough to google or use yelp. I would trust our pepper info more than some guys blog, not that blogs are not true at time but having the reviews here would increase the chance of having the peppers peer reviewed so to speak, and much more trustworthy and accurate.
