Anyone have Solanum pyracanthum or know where to get them?

I was going to buy some S pyracanthum, then I remembered I saw some being grown by people here. Anyone have some for trade or extras by any chance.

I am sorry (not), but I just have to say that anyone who actually WANTS to grow pyracanthos/pyracantha/pyracanth-anything is crazy in my book.

It's not personal - my parents had a large pyracantha that, of course, we kids were responsible for trimming, mowing, and weeding around. I've been on the wrong end of those godless spines way too many times, including once when my older brother pushed me into the plant. But hey, you wanna go there, be my guest!  ;)

Sounds like your parents knew the only proper way to grow them, which is by having someone else take care of it.

But yeah, that's why I intend to have it in a pot indoors with more than enough room to walk around it. It wouldn't be the nastiest plant I've run into though.

LOL!

My parents had cactus gardens in both the front and back yards, in addition to the pyracantha, so I've had plenty of needles dug out over the years. I think the worst was from a yucca. It was only the one point, but it was large and broke off and my body surely hated that thing for quite some time. Yeah, dug it out, but it took a long time to heal. By comparison, I didn't mind running into the prickly pear, even though it left more holes. Cacti do have beautiful flowers, at least.

I don't know - the wiki says the alkaloids are toxic to humans (though it doesn't give a measure of that.) It might be considered nastier than your past experience from that perspective.

You'll have to post pics if you do obtain one!

I got a solanum quitoense that is really cool and quite similar, let me talk to the fella and see if he is able to assist.
