The THP 12th Anniversary Burger Showdown Throwdown June 3-5

Today starts a reserved Showdown and anything goes burger Throwdown.

Please note the requirements below are abridged, and in some cases contestants are adhering to more detailed requirements and/or allowances. For example, worcestershire sauce has fish but is allowable and not considered a protein in beef. If there are any further questions please PM so we can clear it up.

The majority ruled "Only burger pics allowed." We only want to see the burger plated (or in hand), no fries no sides, no beverages. If a beer slips in out of focus you won't be disqualified, but please try your best to present the burger.

A burger is defined as a ground protein formed into a patty shape. The rest of the definitions are as follows:

Showdown
  • Beef - hot stuff v. tctenten - Patty/s must be all beef (any cuts) no fats, fillers, other proteins. Your traditional patty but everything else is up to you.
  • Non-Beef - JoynersHotPeppers v. Student of Spice - Entire burger (not just patty) must not contain any beef whatsoever.
  • Non-Traditional Bun - Ozzy2001 v. Scoville DeVille - The traditional bun must be replaced by anything not resembling a bun, roll, english muffin, etc. Think outside the box and this element must be from scratch or modified (transformed from original state).
  • Stuffed - grantmichaels v. wheebz - Patty/s must be stuffed (stuffed does not necesarily mean fully encased).
  • Extreme - D3monic v. JayT - This burger must be extreme in size (not necessarily patty size, but overall burger) and/or in heat. This is a true chilihead eating challenge burger, within reason, as one you may order at a burger restaurant, but there is a waiver to sign or a prize for finishing. The challenge is not for most extreme, but best extreme burger and you may lean in one direction of extreme; heat/size, or consider both equally
5 crowns awarded

Throwdown
  • Anything Goes Burger Throwdown. Anyone can enter except those in the Showdown. A burger is defined as a ground protein formed into a patty shape. The rest is up to you! Anything goes!
1 crown awarded

This will be a 7-day poll, 48 hours plus 24 for each category.

BEST BURGER OF THP

Once the poll has ended, the 6 winners will go into a new 48 hour poll to determine the best burger of THP!

1 crown awarded

TO ALL ENTRANTS IN SD/TD:

You may post pics of your process throughout in this topic; prep, teasers, cooking, etc. To enter compose a final post (name your category and competitor is applicable) and please note the following:

CLICK: The 5 Rules for an eligible entry
Title your entries, list all ingredients and cooking methods. Exact measurements please where applicable.
PoL: $.11 (PoL only needs to be shown ONCE in a pic with all or a majority of the ingredients used, or in a final presentation pic of the main entry, preferably not on the plate. International may round to 10.)
PIC ALLOWANCE:  5 pics. Burger on plate or in hand plus 4. Remember some prep/cooking shots are "money" and look good in your final post. It doesn't have to all be final presentation. REQUIRED PIC: We MUST see one "cut down the middle" pic to see all the layers. If this ruins the integrity of your burger (due to size/fillings etc.), you may show us a bite pic, however a clean edge would be preferred (eat until near middle, then slice), or, a bite pic is welcome as long as it reveals the layers. Voters will be instructed to not vote on doneness. NOTE: Do not show anything except the burger. No sides, no beverages, etc.

Sigh of relief re: the 'doneness' ...

Been stressin' over that because it's so polarizing!

Yes, voters need to vote for the burger and realize if this was in a restaurant they could order it (or make it) however they wanted. Don't let "overdone" sway you, if that is your fave. I know the "cut down the middle" can be stressful but it's to show all the layers or innards as it were. :)

I'm turned off as fck from a bloody burger personally. It's one thing if you ground your own fresh meat but I picture the stuff at the butcher going through icky hell before making if into the pack of food dye and seran wrap.

But then again i've always been a med-rare guy either way.
Just cook how you like em since you're the only one eating it
