This heat has played havoc on my veggie garden

I've lost my squash plants, cucumbers and allot of my tomatoes with this heat. The only thing doing well are my hot pepper plants. I'll have to plan for some shade protection next season.

Ouch - sorry to hear that. We are having rollercoaster weather - up into the 90F's a few days, down to 60's a few days, and so on. Unfortunately, in ensuring my chile plants didn't roast, I managed to forget to water some of the herbs. Fortunately, all but one pulled through, but the one was REALLY fried.

I had to rig a little shade:

Sorry to hear --- nothing like good crop from your own garden. Our spinach is crispy critter.  Funny but the flowering continues to take place on the plants even though the leaves are no good.  Happened when we went away for a few days. PVC and some shade cloth works okay. Depends on your setup.   Our herbs continue to do okay, like tyme, sage, rosemary, and chives.  Granted your heat is a little more than ours. I  did rig a sail cloth for a few days this year for the peppers in containers.

my herbs are in containers and I've taken them out of the direct sun and same with my pubes and rocotos. I shaded my middle eastern bell type peppers and they are doing great and setting lots of fruit. I'm just really bummed with the tomatoes both in containers and in the ground. I had high hopes for them. 2 of my cherry's are doing great but the other 20 plants are barely hanging on this summer.

Yep I'm on my second round of planting  everything is stunted ripped up my eggplant, zucchini and cucumbers and replanted  My corn is only 3 feet tall and it's tasseling already thinking of ripping it out and replanting it too, also growing asparagus for the 1st time it's under shade cloth as well as my collards.
