U)<now's 2016/2017 Indoor/Outdoor Glog

Hey guys,

I figured I'd start a late season Glog for my indoor (possibly outdoor for a couple months) grow since I didn't start anything this past spring. I posted some stuff in the Growing sub a couple weeks ago when I ordered all my seeds for my 2017 grow, but I wanted to start a few now to overwinter for a winter project as well as a head start for 2017. Currently I have a setup for 5 4ft T8 twin tube fixtures (10 bulbs) with 6500K bulbs right now as I don't normally overwinter plants so I haven't needed anything stronger yet... I only keep 4 fixtures on it for seedlings. I may upgrade to a Quantum Badboy 8 bulb T5HO, or a DIY COB LED setup, not decided yet, I need to do more research on the LED. I have followed a few DIY builds on here and people here seem to have good luck with their DIY COB LED setups and I have seen people growing to pods with both indoors. I don't want to deal with the cost or heat of MH or HPS. I guess the good thing about LED is they don't normally degrade or have to be replaced seasonally like T8 or T5 bulbs.

I only have room to start about 300 plants in the spring, The most I have started in years past was 288, so my list wont get much bigger for 2017, but here is my 2017 grow list so far. I normally start about 10 or so of each plant and give some away to my family members with gardens, Keeping only 2 or 3 of each variety for myself. I have all these seeds in hand right now, with the exception of a couple.

Hey all! Long time no post!

Things are coming along slowly, but plants are doing ok. Some are doing well, others still yellowing, dropping leaves and growing slowly. I'm not sure what to do, it's getting pretty frustrating. I think some of my yellowing is still happening from the previous overwatering/edema damage that was already done.

The plants from my 2nd and 3rd batches that were not overwatered are doing much better than the ones from the first batch, so it's likely most of my issues are due to periods of too much water and periods of not enough water. Hopefully it gets better.

So far, I have made the following changes to my setup:

- Raised lights to 16 inches above plants. No stretching, but some are still purpling, so whatever, they can just be purple I guess.
- Lowered grow tent temps to 73F (down from 84F)
- Reduced watering frequency and amount, only watering when almost bone dry top to bottom and only roughly 4oz to 6oz. Still bottom watering, although I did top water today.
- Added 8 inch fan for better airflow
- Reduced light cycle to 16hrs per day (from 18hrs)
- I now let my tap water sit for a few days. I fill a 5 gal bucket and let it sit for a few days before I use it to let the chlorine evaporate.

I think I let them dry out a bit too much a couple weeks ago as some plants yellowed worse and a few leaves on my jalapeno even turned almost white and fell off. Maybe now I'm not watering enough, maybe I'm just over thinking the whole operation, lol.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts.

Here's some pics...

My watering schedule since I started keeping track, the pot up on 4-4-2017 was when I overwatered pretty bad...

CP115 that was never overwatered and is doing great. No edema, no spotting (So far...) and no yellowing.

I just love your grow area! It's an inspiration ;)

Plants are looking good! But seem to need something.

Are you feeding the gals yet? If not, it's time to. Get some mild liquid nutes and mix it to 1/2 strength and use that the next time you bottom water.

Thanks Devv! I have fed them only 3 times so far. Once back on March 15th with half strength MG 24-8-16, once on March 24th with half strength Jobes 3-1-2 and once on April 12th with Jobes 3-1-2 half strength.

So it's been about 17 days now since they were last fed.

Think I need to feed them more? As I said in previous posts, I used to use MG soil and never had to feed until they went outside. I've never had to use ferts indoors while they were small before, so I am just not sure how much to use and how often.

The local grow shop does have some CNS17 in stock for a good price, so I could try that. Lots of guys on here seem to recommend the CNS17 or Jobes which is why I switched to Jobes from the MG.

I'm not familiar with the products you use. I use a local liquid product made in the same county I live in called Hasta Gro 6-12-6. I feed by plant color; in small amounts. You can always feed again but if you burn the plant, you can't take it back. What I mean by plant color is feed, watch the plant and add more if it's not dark enough. I see many plants posted on the glogs here that are way darker than mine; and they're doing fine. I'm just not that brave ;)
I also use Calmag, Epsom salt, Seaweed Extract, and Fish Emulsion...aka fish stank ;)

Poke around the glogs and take notes ;)

Hey all,

It's been about 4 days since my last watering (which was a top watering), so today im going to bottom water with the MG ferts that worked so well last time I used them. Hopefully I can get them turned around. only 4 weeks til they go outside.   Temps are still pretty cool, but getting better quickly. I'll update again in a few days to a week if I see any improvements.

Hey All,

Things are looking up (again...  ) after the last batch of watering with MG 24-8-16 at 1/2 tsp per gallon on May 3rd. I used the MG again solely because it worked last time.  I just watered them again on May 14th and mixed in some CNS17 Grow 3-1-2 at 15ml (1 Tbsp) per gallon of water. I'll only be using CNS17 going forward now. The bottle says 15ml/gal with every watering. Some people recommend 15ml per gallon every other watering, others say do half with every watering.  I think I'll try 7.5ml per gallon going forward and use with every watering, see how that goes and  eventually try to work my way back up to the 15ml or 18ml per gallon with every watering as reccomended on the bottle, if they can take it.

I have read many other posts on here and a lot of people also recommend the Dyna Grow Foliage Pro. It's the same ratio of nutes, (DG is 9-3-6 and CNS17 Grow is 3-1-2) but DG is more concentrated, so its twice the price per gallon ($50 vs $25) and the DG bottle recommends only half as much per gallon as CNS17 does. Other than that, DG says it has 16 essential macro and micro nutes needed, and CNS says it has 17, hence CNS17. (EDIT: I think the extra one in CNS is Calcium, something with CNS's unique formula preventing it from separating in the bottle or something like that. They both have Calcium) So I'm guessing they are similar and people on here have had great success with both brands.

I know I lost a lot of growing time (probably 6 weeks set back) this season though because of the issues I ran into with not fertilizing soon enough and often enough for fear of burning them... However, I'll get all the kinks worked out this season and hopefully be set up for an awesome season next year. My main goal this year is to isolate some flowers to get true seeds for next season. After that, hopefully I get enough pods to dry some for powder, and some fresh pods to try my hand at hot sauce making.

Weather is warming up, 15 day forecast shows mid to upper 60's for highs now, and mid 40's to low 50's for lows, except for Wed/Thur this week dipping to 38F/41F for lows, so I have a couple test plants outside now, peppers and tomatoes, I'll pull them back in for the cooler nights this week, but otherwise, they are staying outside.

I'll upload some update pics when I get home tonight.  Other than that, we'll be moving to the new house next weekend!

Hope everyone is having a great season so far!

Later,

T.

Hey all!

After a couple more weeks of neglecting my plants while moving into the new house and painting and yada yada yada... I finally have the garden done and the rest potted up into 5 gallon or larger pots, except the mutant hab, that's in a 3 gallon.

I decided to leave the garden in the spot the previous owners had it for this season, but I made it a bit bigger. I'll move it next year though. Garden is 19ft x 13ft. 54 spots total with 24" spacing. Garden soil is very, very sandy. Especially close to the garage where sand was used for backfill. That's good for drainage though, especially considering it's supposed to rain. Almost every day for the next 2 weeks.

So I put one of each into pots, and one of each into the garden. Then filled the extra garden spots with some of my spare plants and 7 tomato plants.

I don't have an exact final list/qty yet, but I'll get a count soon.

Here's a few quick pics..

Looking really good, Troy!

Glad you've got most potted up or in the ground.

Reminds me of my grow. LOL! I planted way to many.

Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see them plants start stretching.

So I left the potted plants outside of the garden fence in the yard, apparently that was a mistake, the deer ate some of them a few days ago... they'll come back nice and bushy, but I likely won't get any pods off them this season. So I moved them into the garden I between rows now.

Here are some pics of plants that are getting some pods now. Plants need to be fed, but it hasnt stopped raining here in a week now and we're due for almost 2 more weeks of rain, so it feels pointless to water them more just to feed them, but I'm going to do that tomorrow anyways.

I think that's about it for now folks. Hopefully this rain let's up soon. Thank God I have sandy soil right now.

Nice work, and BOY, do I hear you on the deer. They topped all my Aji Amarillos and Mama's bell plants, decimated just about everything else but tomatoes.

Is the Blue Christmas all ornamental?
I see it got the pretty pot!
Thanks! It's not strictly ornamental, but it's the most colorful variety I have once the pods start changing and with the purple leaves it looks cool, so that's why they have the fancy pots on the deck.
