I.D. Help - Between a Scorp and a Reaper

This came from a plant outside of my main growing area. The pepper in the middle is what i'm trying to identify. The LEFT is a Scorpion, RIGHT is my Reaper...the one in the middle? it has a bubbly skin to it unlike the others in the picture, but its more hollow than the fleshy Scorp yet has a smaller version of the Scorp stinger on the bottom.

Here is a closeup of the Middle pepper.

Any Ideas? It has a lot of tiny bubbles on it as you can see.

Thanks!

But if the middle ones are Reapers...then what are the ones to the right? They have sharp pointed things protruding from them...I've gotten about 50+ peppers from just the one plant and its early...and they are HOT! So the question is then...what is the ID of the pepper on the RIGHT?

Here is a close-up pic of those peppers...most plentiful plant I have.

I would say it is possible that wherever you got your seeds from, reaper chick made love with some other hot pepper(s).

PS: I think it's possible that the first two peppers gave birth to the third one. It got a bit of it's reaper-ish texture but remained longer and a bit larger.

Yea could be a mislabel...I got those seeds from Pepper Joe's a while ago, and I heard that sometimes they are mixed up...but I'd really like to know what kind of pepper is above then? I already dried seeds lol

Based on the texture, I agree with the others: middle one is most likely reaper. They do not always develop the thin tail.  So what is the pepper on the right?  Might also be reaper.  As you mentioned, it is early.  First pods often look wonkey.

What other seeds or plants did you plant?

Hey ajdrew, the one on the right is my most productive plant. Been producing for over a month and a half now...so thats the way they have always looked. I also have red and yellow Fatalii's, Red Naga Vipers, Tazmanian Habs, along with the Moruga Trin Scorps, Reapers, and the Reapers with no tail (if they are reapers). Living in AL, i have a second batch that are a month old (in house) that have been outside for a couple weeks. Those are seeds I bought overseas from someone mentioned on here, came from Switzerland but the language is in German hehe, those plants are Bhut Jolokia strain II, Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion, and 7 pot bubblegum. They look good, even when its 95+ almost every day.

I still believe the ones on the right are just weird reapers, maybe they mated with something, I cant seem to find a picture to exactly match them though.

The best tasting and most producing of the plants are the Scorps, Red Naga Viper, Red Fatalii's, and the mystery reaper is just plain hot. I cut one in half touched tip of tongue to it...next thing i know i musta licked my lip because it was swollen haha.

Happy growing ajdrew and everyone else :)

Middle are definitely Reapers, the right I'm less sure on. In the close up, the left most pepper looks very Hab-like and the rightmost is almost a Naga Viper in appearance. Their colour instantly says they're Reaper related to me but they sure don't look purebred and, while they can theoretically occur on any pepper (or pepper plant), I've never seen a Reaper with thorns.

Something to think about.  Hippie Seed Company is very highly thought of.  They grow thousands of plants a year.  One year, they noticed a reaper that grew wonkey pods. They liked it and grew it out.  They are now selling the seed as the Bhut Shaped Reaper.  Watched a video by Buckeye Pepper where he identified several reaper plants that did not grow reaper pods despite seed coming from Puckerbutt.  I forget if he said they were bhut like or hab like.  I think it was bhut, so I am going to go with the reaper has bhut like recessive genes.

Things go sideways sometimes and it is not always an accidental cross.  No matter how stable a variety is, combining and recombining genes will eventually bring out recessive traits.

Unfortunately, that means those of us obsessed with growing everything are royally screwed cause the selection grows faster than we can grow them.

Thanks for all of the information everyone, but ajdrew is definitely right: The average pepper grower just cant keep up with all of these varieties. Even the seed companies are confusing them apparently. When I said I was growing Red and Yellow Fatalii's, I actually only ordered the yellow. Somehow i got 2 red fatalii's and only 1 yellow lol, and these sees werent from Pepper Joes but from Pepperlover.com...so i will be surprised to see if the newer plants I planted will be true to the label. This is the first time I ordered form Peter at http://www.semillas.de and the seeds were nice and the plants are looking great atm. So far 2/3 seed companies mislabeled, and the 3rd is yet to be seen.

I went and checked the plant (the pepper in the middle that everyone says is a reaper) and that seed packet was for 7 pod congo red giants! I'm hoping the plants from Peter in Denmark are true to the label.

I checked out your link to "thehippyseed" and that is weird, some of them almost look similar, but i didnt purchase from them :)

What a mess this year! Can't complain tho because everything is growing great!

I see exactly what you mean moruga...seems like the reapers i thought i had are not the original breed apparently. This is only my 2nd growing season w/ superhots, but have been growing other peppers for a long time. It's a pain when you dont get what you think you planted because thats an entire year gone by. None of the so-called reapers I am growing look anything like yours, especially missing the tail. I listed in my last post which seed buyers ive went through thus far...who would you recommend to get true reaper seeds from for next year? I know this is not a place to promote buyers, if its better to message me I'd appreciate it.

You have a very nice looking plant there!

Cheers
