Potted Lemon Tree Has Yellow Leaves and Dropping A Few

My wife's potted Lemon tree has a few yellow leaves and is dropping them,we have them outside and it has been doing great with fruit growing on it. I was wondering if this is normal,ut usually does this after we bring it in for winter.

Thanks

Chris

Usually my citrus trees yellow and drop from too much water. But if you let them dry out, they come back. With all the rain we've been getting recently, I had to actually move my trees to a drier location. Less sun for now, but they're too drenched. I have a nice crop of limes on one tree and a whole bunch of calamondins on another. My ponderosa lemon dropped its fruit earlier in the year......from getting too much water.

Just the opposite here, pretty much a drought here.

Just what type of Fertilizer you use.

Thanks

Ah ok. In my (limited) experience, drought-related issues are easier to overcome than drenching. Maybe give them a good soak and move them to a more shaded location until they bounce back a bit.

I repot them every year in 1/2 perlite and 1/2 pine bark fines. In that mix, I use a proportionate amount of fertilizer and lime.

So something like this:

1/2 cu. ft. pine bark
1/2 cu. ft. perlite
1/4 lb fertilizer (I used Dr. Earth for citrus this year and it's working good)
1/4 lb lime

I can leave them out overnight, say, beginning of May. About mid-May, I give them a shot of fertilizer every month until they're in for the year (some time in October):

Month 1: fish emulsion + liquid citrus fertilizer (I use a cyrstallized fert designed for azalea/hydrangea by Miracle Gro)
Month 2-5: liquid citrus fertilizer only

I should say: *I don't necessarily pot up every year, but change the medium once/year.
